Im am not here to disrespect this man. It is a shame that things like this happen. I feel sorry for him and his family.

I just want to show this community the double standard that is present. If this were a hip hop concert the comments on this post would have been all negative. The bling bling gangsta comments would have been pouring out. Ask yourself, why is that? Just goes to show violence is not restricted by race or culture.

Not True. If I recall correctly, this board was upset about the shooting death of Jam Master Jay.

Jigsaw there is no need to get hostile. If you want to take it there we can but it was not my intention.

Sirloin's comment is exactly what I mean. In your opininon hip-hop is not talent. Thats not even the point. Lives have been lost it has nothing to do with the music or lifestyle. Yet if violence happens at a hip-hop concert it is immediately tied into the music or the lifestyle. This unfortunate incident proves that violence can happen anywhere anytime to anyone.

What stumps me is at any punk rock/ Hard core /Heavy metal cancert like that ive ever been to they pat your bellybutton down and wont let people take in those carabiners (climbing thing people but keys on) or evenchain wallets...................so how did thids fugg up get a gun in there???????

it wasnt a huge concert .. it was a niteclub/bar room type performance ... (how many times have you been patted down going into a bar ??)

Why do you even need to bring that up? You do realize that even by drawing up this scenerio for a hip hop artist to expire in a similar fashion, you're admitting that a divide does indeed exist or you're even creating it yourself? Even if it isn't what you intended... in pointing a so-called 'double standard', you draw everyone into an argument and they unknowingly admit that there is a fine line between hiphop and rock, black and white. This simply isn't true and this is why racism exists.

If a musician dies a musician dies. Dont you dare try to separate the two.

Oct, I am not trying to start an argument at all. I just want to show the community that incidents like this happens to all. Hopefully members of this community will understand that, and stop blaming incidents in sports, music, religion on any one culture.

that will become the standard after this I bet .... but ive been to hundreds of bar performances and never have been patted down ... plenty of big name performances too . (Seattle / west coast area )

Darrell was one of the nice guys in the DFW scene. He'd help judge local contests. Come out to show support for other bands. Generally being the opposite of most people in the local scene, which was pretty cutthroat.
Pantera could have gotten signed long before they did, but they held out for a deal that let their father produce the album in his studio. I think that says a lot about loyalty.

The last band I was with in DFW had hired a drummer who had just graduated from PIT. He was a huge Pantera fan. We'd come off stage and were hanging at the bar doing the PR game. The drummer walks up, we introduce him to Darrell and Rex. He turned white as a sheet.

Not much of a eulogy, but having lost a lot of friends over the years this is something I needed to do for closure.
