combat trim on TM cougar
« on: December 09, 2004, 08:33:43 AM »
Well, I have decided to "try" and throw away the crutch that is combat trim.  My squadie swears by the manual trim and as he is a better pilot than me (along with 90% of the arena :D ) going to take his word for it.

I want to map the elevator trim and the aileron trim to the rotaries on the throttle  on the TM cougar.

I tried setting it up directly in AH under the select joystick in the settings, but the rotaries don't respond when I turn them.

I currently have the antena mapped as RPM and the range mapped as rudder, but when I reassign them for the trim functions, they don't work.  I made sure that I removed the rpm and rudder functions so that there wasn't a double assignment...

What am I doing wrong?  Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Revvin had a great profile with the setups on it when he had his Cougar. I still use it and a few others when I play. If I remember correctly the AH software will not recognize the rotary switches on the Cougar but if you set it up using the software that came with the Cougar (Foxy) then you will be good to go. You just have to load the software before you start AH.

When I get home I will look for my profiles and email you or post it on a site for you.

AH2 recognizes the rotaries on my cougar.

I have the rotarys set up differently and all inside AH2  (no foxy for the rotarys).

I use the MAN RNG rotary as RPM, because I use button T6 to toggle WEP.

I use the ANT for elevator trim, because it is the easiest to manipulate while throttling up and down in a dogfight for me.

I use T4 and T5 for aileron trim, but almost never touch them in a fight.

...anyway, back to your problem.  Do you have anything assigned to the rotarys in foxy?  This might interfere with trying to set it in AH too for some reason.

What I did is select "pitch trim", select the "anttenna"  and hit "set input".   Then I calibrated and all was good.  Hope this helps.

Furious -

I am using the rotaries now for RPM and rudder so I know they are working.  I do not have them assigned in Foxy.  After I assigned them in AH (after removing the RPM and rudder assignments) its like they weren't even there when flying.

In the setup however, they do register as being there when I move them.

Very strange indeed.  Guess I'll have to play with it some more

Reschke - if you could find that file, that would be fantastic.  You can email it to me directly.  I think the BBS lets you send email thru my profile.

thanks!!!

OK, try this.   Hit one of the keybord trim keys (i, k, j, l, etc.) then test the rotaries.

I notice with my set up that turning the rotary by itself won't actually turn off CT.

I had the rotaries programmed for trim for exactly 2 days.
Now i use them for zoom view and map zoom.
I have large hands and found that i kept catching the rotaries inadvertently at the worst possible times, throwing the trim out by miles and watching a con escape is not fun or something i was prepared to put up with.
Now i use the radio switch for trim in conjunction with the pinkie button and without for flaps etc.

If you really must use the rotaries for trim do yourself a favour and try to only enable it when the pinkie button is down.

If you want to try then use these commands

ANT /I  2 3         trim_cancel_v   ^ trim_cancel_v
        /O  4 10       trim_up       ^ trim_down

RNG /I  2 3         trim_cancel_h  ^ trim_cancel_h
        /O  4 10      trim_right     ^ trim_left

copy and paste into your tmj file.

Of course you will need to add these commands into your tmm file as well

trim_up =
trim_down=
trim_left =
trim_right =
trim_rdr_left =
trim_rdr_right =
trim_cancel_h =
trim_cancel_v=
trim_cancel_rdr =

Just add the buttons you have programmed in AH for this function.
