OFFICIAL BAND STATEMENT:.

Like many of Dime's friends, Paul said that the guitarist will be remembered for his playing but missed most for his giving personality.

"With all his greatness and accomplishments on the guitar, DIME will be missed more for his giving personality, charisma, caring for others, love and most of all his HEART!! Twice as big as the state of TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!!!" the statement read. "DIME gave it all every day to each and every one of us and our lives have forever been hollowed without him...

"Thanks to all of you for reaching out to us in this time of our immeasurable loss. REST IN PEACE BROTHER DIME!!!!!!"

The surviving members of Damageplan also issued a statement revealing that their former head of security, Jeffrey "Mayhem" Thompson, was also killed in the tragedy, and that Chris Paluska, who worked with Damageplan's management and was their acting tour manager, was also shot and is in critical but stable condition. The band's drum tech, John "Kat" Brooks, was hit with a bullet but will be released from the hospital Friday (November 10).

"Jeffrey 'Mayhem' Thompson was not just a true part of the Damageplan family, but part of the whole Dallas music scene," the statement said. "He was friend to all, with a great personality. He bent over backward to help us all with his trademark phrases like 'What can I do for you sir?' and 'Coming up!'"

In the statement, the band thanks Thompson for his extreme loyalty and credits him for helping save the surviving members' lives. "He stated his willingness to protect us, saying 'I'd take a bullet for ya,' and unfortunately did in defense of our lives," they said. "He truly lived and died for his friends and made the ultimate sacrifice, giving his life to save ours. For this we will never forget. You will be missed, big man."

The band's label, Atlantic Records, issued a statement as well, which reads in part, "Dimebag Darrell was an exceptional musician and an extraordinary person. Along with his brother and bandmate, Vinnie Paul, he was a member of the Elektra/Atlantic family for the past 14 years, and he will be deeply missed. The bravery displayed by Damageplan, their crew, their fans, and the local police will never be forgotten."

Just noticed that  John Lennon and  Darrel Abbot were both killed on Dec. 8th. Weird.

We have lost two great guitarist from the Dallas area.
Dimebag Darrell to a sensless act of insanity.
And Stevie Ray Vaughan to a stupid accident.

Now I am not much of a metal head but I am a guitarist and as such I saw the beauty of Dimebags talent.
He was simply one of the best at what he did bar nore.

Why this dude did what he did we will probably never know.
But what I do know is that we as a people need to remember what a gift life truly is!
We must stop taking life for granted because none of use are quarranted another day.

Live you life like its the last of your days.
Love your family and friends that much harder.
Learn to forgive you enemies.
Maybe go out on a clear night and just look up at the stars and sit in amazment at just how small we really are.

And for you that are blessed with kids dont let them ever doubt that you love them.

DIMEBAG's Killer Wanted To Sue PANTERA For 'Stealing' His Lyrics - Dec. 10, 2004
The Associated Press is reporting that the man who shot guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott once told a friend that Abbott's former band, PANTERA, stole his lyrics.

Jeramie Brey said gunman Nathan Gale (Photo#1, Photo#2, Photo#3) once showed up at a friend's house saying he wanted to share songs he had written. The pages of lyrics were copied from PANTERA, but Gale claimed he had written them, Brey said.

"He was off his rocker," Brey told The Columbus Dispatch. "He said they were his songs, that PANTERA stole them from him and that he was going to sue them."

He later told Brey that he planned to sue PANTERA for stealing his identity. Brey and friend Dave Johnson said Gale's behavior frightened them and they distanced themselves from him several years ago. But other friends said they never considered Gale capable of violence.

On Wednesday night, the 25-year-old former Marine charged the stage at a show by Abbott's new band, DAMAGEPLAN, and gunned down four people including Abbott before a policeman fatally shot him.

Police said Friday they still didn't know Gale's motive, and they may never find out. Some witnesses said Gale yelled accusations that the revered guitarist broke up PANTERA, but police had not verified those reports

"Columbus, Ohio's WBNS-10TV has posted a video report examining possible motives for the fatal shootings at the Alrosa Villa club, which resulted the death of DAMAGEPLAN/ex-PANTERA guitarist Dimebag Darrell. Watch the video here.

Dimebag's alleged killer, Nathan Gale (Photo#1, Photo#2), 25, of Marysville, had a minor police record in Marysville, including driving with a suspended license last month, said Police Chief Floyd Golden. He was pulled over for driving with a suspended license last month.

Friends of Gale's describe him as a loner. They say over the past few years his personality changed, and they add that they distanced themselves from him.
