New York ATC Session the other night
« on: December 10, 2004, 07:37:46 PM »
This was a rediculous night for everyone involved. And in all my years of doing ATC, this session stood out the most intense.

The weather was crap at JFK - 700 broken 5/8, 2 miles in heavy snow, moderate turb and icing upto 6000 tops to 9000, wind 270 / 25 gusting to 37, landing 31L and 31R.

About 7 minutes into it the other controller dropped off the session and around 35 pilots got dumped onto my frequency at 1 time. So with the crap weather, we had guys holding, guys going missed, guys getting ice in everything from T210's and B1900's to 767's and Conquests.

It got so hecktic at one point that after 1 pilot landed, he offered to take up a frequency and was a RL tower controller - which he did eventually. Really intense, really exciting - so give it a listen.

As for the weather - here's a post from 1 pilot in the session and his screen caps.

This is a screen cap of the scope before everything went to hell.

The website is http://www.westcoastatc.com - give it a try. If you've flown the VAT - you know what to expect.

Yes, FS9 and Vatsim simming at it's best and at times most stressfull :)

I almost added a Polar Air Cargo 742 to that mess last night but ended up doing a leg from Liege to Dubai. Wasn't snowing in Dubai but it was surrounded in some severe Thunderstorms and Gusts.

Dubai is in the centre of that red on the weather radar.

You can fly what ever you want from 152's  to 747's and anything military. There are Virtual Airlines that cater for just about everything.

I'm with http://www.globecargo.org as they exlusively fly the RFP742 (http://www.panelshop.com) and do exact same routes as the real world Polar Air and Atlas Cargo.

Great fun though the learning curve with the RFP742 is very steep and turns almost verticle when you add Vatsim on top of it. Though very very rewarding. Plus it's fun looking down on 737's :)

Edit -

Its not the VAT - but if you can fly the VAT you can certainly survive this.
