I was out buying Christmas cards last week, and I had a job to find cards that were both tasteful, non religious, and bore the message "Merry Christmas". So many cards nowadays bear the message "Season's Greetings". That's the politically correct greeting, and the one which has to be used on TV networks in certain countries I could mention. ;)

I'm not offended by the Jewish faith which knows this season as Hannuka, or the Hindus who celebrate Diwali. So I don't see why some people should take offence at the C-word. My preference for the salutation of "Merry Christmas" is not driven by religious persuasion, but because my family, my friends and myself have always known this season as Christmas.

I would have bought cards showing nativity scenes and shepherds - gold, frankenstein and meths (can't be bothered to look up the spellings) if that was the only way I could get a set of cards which mentioned Christmas.

Do I believe Jesus existed? Yes, his life is well documented in Roman texts. Do I believe in the virgin birth? Erm... well no, but the whole thing is a cute story.

Of course, I don't mind Christmas being known as something else in other languages, so...

Merry Christmas! to all and

Joyeux Noël - to Straffo, Saintaw, Ouaibe, SLO and all the other francophones.

Feliz Navidad - to MANDOBLE, Pepe, CyranoAH and all the other Spaniards (sorry Daniel, I don't know what is is in Catalan!)

and Buena Natale - to 13Promet and any other Italians - and WildThing of course!

And Happy New Year!

We hold festivus here in my RL squadron, but I don't think it's the same festivus for the rest of us that you're thinking of...
