Passing of my Mother
« on: December 17, 2004, 10:42:46 AM »
This has been a less than ideal holiday season. I returned to my hometown for my wife and I  to get our Doctor and Dentist visits done. While we were here I received the news that my Mother had suffered a massive stroke, also in the same town. By the time I had been notified she had been declared brain dead and permission to remove life support was being requested. I concurred as I knew she hated the idea of people being hooked up to machines with no valid possiblity of recovery. She passed 10 minutes after Last Rites were administered.

Frankly this was a blessing for her. She had been in a decline that accellerated in the last 6 months. Alzheimers had taken almost all her memories and she constantly forgot where she was and who was around her. She was barely able to recognize family members and couldn't care for herself.

I knew it would happen sometime soon but still it was a shock. She had a long time here and I'm positive she is in a far better place and free of pain and decline. Saturday morning we place her to rest.

For those of you that have parents still here, spend some time with them. My Father died when I was 7 and I missed him for almost all my chidhood. My Mother passing, even though a release for her, means the final chapter related to childhood has closed.

If you have children, make sure you cherish the time you have and work to insure the memories they have of you will be good. You always pay the debt owed to your parents through your own children.

May the blessings of this season be good to you and your families, no matter what your beliefs may be.

When I pass away, I'd want people to celebrate my life, not mourn me, think of the good times you had.

Keep in touch, if yah need anything let us know..

My condolences on your loss Mav

I lost my grandfather to Alzheimers 6 years ago, and it is indeed a relief and release for those suffering from the disease.

I lost my mother in 2002, I've been through a lot of rough and tough times since that day in February.

It's hard Mav, Your bonds with family and friends are strengthened and some are stretched and worn thin.

Just remember that the spirit of her lives on in you and your family and friends and everyone who had the privledge of knowing her personally.

After almost three years of missing my mother severely I finally have come to the realization, that all the crying and mourning in the world will not bring her back, but every smile you see her wearing in an old photograph or finding something that makes you think of her and makes you smile, is worth more than it's wieght in gold.

My deepest sympathy goes out to you and yours Mav.

My Sister, Me, and my Mom.

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

My heart-felt condolences to you both, Mav and Nef, and to all for whom the pain of lost loved-ones is still fresh.

I'm fortunate that both my parents, in their 70's, are enjoying good health.

Alzheimers is a terrible disease, I see it almost every day.  I'm sorry for your loss Mav,  but realize that your Mom is now free of Alzheimers debilitating clutches.

God Bless

Merry Christmas.

Sorry for your loss maverick :(

I recently lost my grandmother, and on monday we discovered that the lung cancer that my mom has had for many years has spread to her thorat region (eating tube?)... The docs are not sure what to do next yet.

Keeping the holiday spirits up is gonna be hard for us both Maverick (and far to many others), but we have to try our best for our families sake.

I truly feel sorry for you Maverick, you have my deepest condolences.
