eskimo’s thread, “Farewell PETA (Confessions of a Troll)” was removed, as predicted. In spite of the fact that it was polite and contained clean language. It did however question PETA’s agenda and tactics. It also called for PETA members to question aspects of PETA itself. This is the ONE THING that PETA will not allow. Does PETA think that its PETA2 members are to young, impressionable and immature to handle a debate on the very purpose of PETA? Or, are they afraid that some of the true problems of PETA will e uncovered.
WARNING!
Organizations that do not allow discussions and debates on their agendas are dangerous! Pay attention to history. Groups that do this have MUCH to hide!
I will never join PETA. Not because I do not think that ethic do not apply to animals, but because PETA goes way beyond what is reasonable, realistic and attainable. There seems to be a hierarchy within PETA with vegans being at the top rung. The entire vegan concept is an illusion. Vegans seem to think that by not consuming and using animals and their byproducts they are not killing or hurting animals (including bugs). Every human has a profound effect on the lives of millions of insects, no matter what we do, or do not do. We have millions of critters that live within our bodies: from single cell to complex insects. Some live off of us and help us; others are parasites and harm us. When we die, we become food for many of them; for others their world also dies. Have you ever driven a car? If so the chances are you have killed a lot of bugs (just look at your windshield and grill). If you are a true vegan, you had better get rid of your bug massacring car. Even while walking, we kill bugs.
Even Vegans are indirectly responsible for the deaths of hundreds or possibly thousands of non insect animals. If you have ever eaten any food on this planet, you have taken food away from animals. Most species of animals on earth are limited in population by their food supply. How many small animals could be fed with the food that you consume? Just think: if you off yourself, hundreds of animals could live off of the food that you didn’t eat. You would be like Jesus Christ to them, giving your life for them. I hope that this idea sounds crazy to you.
The point is: life on earth is messy and unfair. You can philosophize that your negative impact on other life forms is limited or nonexistent. You can even create an illusion that you are as harmless as a cartoon bunny if that makes you feel better. Youth tend to see things as black and white. As your life goes on you will begin to realize that nearly everything is very, very, gray.
I don’t want you folks to give up vegetarianism. I do want you to see, however, that things are not so black and white, that there is a huge difference between: bugs and fish, fish and chimpanzees, and chimpanzees and humans. If you do not recognize this in our society you will be mocked and treated as insane. (I should know; I’m a PETA Troll!). As long as spokespersons for PETA are so extreme, its members and the entire organization will not be taken seriously by the general public.
I would possibly join SPETA, however. (The S standing for Sane.)
SPETA’s mission statement would be something like: “SPETA – We care about animal rights, but we are also reasonable omnivores; heck we don’t even give a crap about bugs.”
I wonder, in fact, that if there was a PETA and an equally sized SPETA, which organization would you belong to?
