Ver 4 Track IR
« on: December 19, 2004, 08:15:13 AM »
Recieved my vector expansion kit other day and been experimenting.
Looking for some help to make it better, hopefully :)

Overall, the vector system is way better, but what I don't care for is the six view. :(

Think it's more the software, cuz I tried ver 4 before I got the vector expansion and got the same ****ty 6 view and switched back to ver 3.12, which pretty much gives me my hats 6 view.

Was hoping w/the vector that the ver 4 thing would clear up,, but to no avail. :(  And 3.12 won't work w/vector.

 Anybody else notice this?
Is it just me, my setup maybe?
Any fixes, or just wait for sw updates?

The system is really cool, no more side to side moving, unless you want to move view sideways. Having all 3 axii to work in is great, alot more stable and accurate, but the 6 view sux

Hopefully it's just something I've overlooked and someone can point me in right direction.

 Thanks in advance

I have trackIR2

When I spin around it uses the views I have set with F10

so from default with trackir off go to 6 view and set your view back so you can see around the seat and save F10

then turn on trackIR and when you view 6 view it should be your custom view not the default up against the seat view.

I have to do this with all my six view (RL, RR, rear up, RR up, RL up and dead 6). The rest of the views work best left in their defaulted position. That way you don't zoom in and out as you move around the cockpit views

edit:
ok just read your post :)

ver 4 can't save views?? hmm and I was thinking about upgrading ..

OK,
Been everywhere to see if anyone else had same prob.
Have found a way to use 6 view,
Turn head for 6 then move sideways, a little strange but prob get use to it. Actually, the 6 view is even better than using hats w/AH system.

But will have to get use to it, first turn alls you see is the headrest, shift sideways and all is good, even have up dwn too.

Eagler, ver 4 of the software works different than the ver 3.XX, in 3 headmovements equalled what ur hat views were set at, in 4 it doesn't match the view settings setup in AH.

Vector definately worth it.

If you play around with the axis sensativity curves you can make the six view work perfectly.  You need to make it so moving "up" in the seat is very aggresive, while down is almost nil.   You also need to set the side to side to a nice agressive curve with more of a deadband though, cause you hardly ever need to look 'just a little left and right'.   This makes checkinc 6 as easy as a turn and lean.

If you dont like that just use the hat view, and lean with the TIR.....if your holding the hat in 6 view, the TIR automatically goes into lean mode.

It rocks

it rocks

it flipping rocks

Hey Alf,

I'm am looking at getting a Track IR.

Is it hard to keep your view from bouncing around, when you don't want it to? It would seem that being as how you only have to move your Head a VERY small amount that it would be hard to keep a "Bandit" in your view without concentrating on your head position.

I wonder what it would be like to combine this system with some 3D goggles? Hummm, the next thing coming??? ;-)

Thanks

Sled,

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

Alf is in my squadron in AH2...he turned me onto the TRACKIR...it absolutely rocks!

"Is it hard to keep your view from bouncing around, when you don't want it to? It would seem that being as how you only have to move your Head a VERY small amount that it would be hard to keep a "Bandit" in your view without concentrating on your head position. "

It is NOT hard to keep your view from bouncing around.  There are a couple of ways you can eliminate this.  In the software you can set up "deadbands/sensitivity" (cant remember exact wording as I am at work).  The default for AH2 works great for me.

The other method is to turn the TRACKIR off while flying.  You can either map a button or hit the F9 key and it will turn it off yet still allow you to use your view keys and hats if you so desire.

Another method (one I use alot) is to map the "CENTER VIEW" to a button on your throttle or joystick.  I mapped the F12 key (TrackIR default to recenter) to a button on my throttle.  Now when I am in the heat of battle and have shifted my chair I can recenter the view from that new position and voila crosshairs recentered!  It is a GREAT feature that really gets used alot by me who tends to move in my chair alot.

I still have full use of my hat switch as well for the programmed views.  What makes this nice is that I can use the hat switch to look somewhere then fine tune it with the TRACKIR !  I am using the hat switch less and less now because it is so natural to just turn my head slightly to see what is going on.

Overall I dont know what I was doing without this little device!  It is simply amazing!

Remember the newest TRACKIR is the TrackIR 3 (pro or the other one) and the VECTOR expansion.  I have not used TRACKIR without the Vector expansion and I have heard it takes getting used to because a turn to the left or right is the same as a lean to the left and right.  With Vector the 3 dots "know" whether you are turning or leaning or both.

Get one...you wont be disappointed...I sure wasnt!!!!
