X52 setup question
« on: December 23, 2004, 11:25:20 AM »
how are you guys handling the extreme bounciness of this stick?

what is your deadpan settings in the windows game controller window?

what are your settings on the jstick slider equalizer page in AH?

I used to have them at the top all the way across on everything with my X45's but this stick is way too sensitive

tia for any help here

Eagler,

I'm working on my X52 now, just got it, I had my JS EQ settings set to what AKAK was using. That was fine for X45, but way to mushy for X52, I have started by just resetting to AH defaults (button for that) and that seems better. After I get every thing working I will start to play with it more, but Default seems ok for now.

Now I have one for you, or anyone else.

I got the X52 installed, and I have it working with my CH Pro Pedals. I have NOT installed the SST software I am trying to see if I can be happy with the AH built in profile editor (one in the game). I used it with my X45 and it worked well for me. Everything in the Win XP JS Controller window is working, mouse hat, mouse button, scroll wheel in throttle, everything. But I noticed that in the AH Profile editor, AH is not seeing the Scroll wheel button. Nor is it seeing the Mouse hat, or the Mouse button.  Do you know why this is, and is there a fix? I've done all the Calibrations, but can't get those buttons to show, all else is fine. I know that the SST editor is the best way to go for max flexibility, but I always seem to have problems with it. any recommendations?

Thanks

Yep, use the SST profile, it triples your programming options

you can always override a button using the AH jstick button assignments but the profile hasn't given me any trouble using XP for many X45's and so far so good with the X52

Eagler, all my settings in the Windows game controller window and jstick settings in AH are the DEFAULT settings. I don't find my X52 to be oversensitive or bouncy at all. It seems just right. Don't know if this is due to a difference in our sticks or just due to preference. I know this isn't too helpful, but will give a punt to your question at least ...

But I do have a different problem and I'm about ready to return my x52. The range of movement of the joystick - x and y axis' - is way too long of a throw for full control surface movement.

What I mean is, in a dogfight I'm waving my arm all over the place to loop, roll, dive, etc. Do you think this could be adjusted in AH or SST software?

yes, it is way different feel than my previous X45's

have you tried adjusting the deadpan range in teh windows controller window?
you can adjust both the center deadpan and the outside edge ones. I am not sure what exactly adjusting the outside limit does, don't know if it cuts the throw off or shrinks it to fit inside the new amount

I don't have the entire throw proble as I can barely move the stick with over comensating. I am moving it 3" max, usually just barely moving it, to the point it is hard to aim without bouncing the nose all over the place. I also did the scale starting almost at the bottom and curving up within AH to try and deaden some of the sticks sensitivity

programming it has the X45 beat but for flyin, I'm still learning it - going to give it a week or two and make a decision then

one another note, circuit city has the X45 with $20 rebate for $59 (after rebate) - I might grab one of those, just in case ...

No I haven't tried that. I'll try it tonight.

I've gone back to AKAK's settings for my stick settings, and I have put my Dead band and Damping settings to zero (bottom) and this seems to be the best to this point, but it is a work in progress.

I am now useing the SST softwear and it is working well at the moment. However see my post on the ministick problem, on this board.

Saw the same deal in BestBuy last night.   I am thinking the x52 may not be worth the extra money over a x45.
