If you guys thought that the N1K2-J was a UFO, watch this film for its successor.

I had been training noobs in basic carrier ops in the TA. I was flying a Ki-84 and flew aboard as an example (Ki-84s can stop in the wires without a tailhook). I left the flaps down and flew a few takeoffs and landings. This film shows the Hayate flying like a Harrier in the CV environment.

In the extreme low end of its envelope the ki-84 seems capable of almost anything.

It certainly gives the OLD low speed king the p38 fits.

For me its the transition from faster to slow speed that tends to be hard. Just before the flaps will deploy is where I always seem to stall it.

interesting. you got it to ~1000ft without ever passing the front edge of the deck. at some point the CV actually had faster forward motion than you did.

I'll try to see if it can fly level at the speed of the CV - then it would be true vertical landing relative to the deck.

I didn't manage to put it down vertically relative to the deck, although I did manage to make it fall almost straight down with wings level... just missed the deck.

I did however find some alternative parking space on the CV in case the deck gets crowded. The text buffer does not show, but it even reloaded my plane...

Yep, a few times.

Not saying it's a bad plane but I've found fighting it is very similiar to fighting against the Spitfire Mk IX. Like the Spitfire Mk IX, I either try to keep the fight at high speeds, where the P-38 has the advantage in a high speed turn fight and exploit the weakness of the Ki-84 at high speeds by using right turns. It has also been my experience while the Ki-84 does seem be good at low speeds, it is not as good as the Spitfire in a low speed/stall fight and again you can take advantage of the torque and keep the turns to the right like you do in high speed turn fights. At least to me, it's a little bit more tougher to fight a Spitfire than it is a Ki-84 but that's just me and I'm only going by my experiences in fighting against it.

Everytime I try and run that film it crashes AHfilm, downloaded it twice, same thing, any ideas? Anyone else run it ok?

Make sure you're running it through the AH2 film viewer and that you have the correct terrain.
