New Years Eve a/k/a Amature Night

Just want to wish all of you a safe evening. And for Christ's sake DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE! If you absolutely, positively, must go out tonight... take a freakin' cab. It's soooo much cheaper in the long run.

My wife just had 4 wisdom teeth pulled this morning.  She's on a pain killer called 'Potters Brew' or something, mostly Oxycontin.  As a result, I'm definately the 'designated parent' tonight (and for the weekend).

I was hoping to fire off my flamethrower tonight, but with her out of action, it's unlikely.

Instead, I'm working on a page about putting a wireless camera on my R/C tank to explore the mysterious crawlspace of my house.

I think I'll just leave the car in the parking lot, stay at home as usual.

I've started a page about it w/ some pics, and I'm working on it right now.  Here's the URL:

It's a work in progress, and not what I thought I'd be doing, but partying doesn't seem right, even if my wife wasn't zonked out on Hillbilly Heroin because of the operation.  I just ran my first operational test under the house and am adding pictures of the terrible failure.  I was glad I could get the flames out before they spread to the subflo-  well, never mind, I'll try not to bore you guys.

Chairboy, neat read.

I've been searching and digging for various sensors for my robot project.  Found one that could visually track and move way back when, but lost the link.  Any ideas?  Be cool if someone waving a hand or such could make the robot move with it, etc.

So far, just have a ton of info on sonic and IR stuff.

60 degrees here.  Amazing.  Usually this time of year we are marveling at how low a wind chill can go into the negative.

Yeah, you're talking about the CMUcam, by the description.

http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~cmucam/

This is an amazing little sensor, I've been wanting to buy one for a while.  So many things to do with it.  I even mentioned it indirectly a few months ago when I mentioned that someone could build an anti-aircraft missile using mostly off the shelf parts.

I've also thought it would be nice to use to build a sentry gun in my front lawn that would pop out and track anyone walking past.  A good way to keep kids 'off of Crazy Old Man Hallert's lawn'.

You can have it Shuck, and any more we are getting, which I'm told is alot . It was 58 last week which may not sound warm, but it really was nice and dry, and without people sliding and crashing acting like they were drivers from Oklahoma.

Amazingly enough, every jet landed just about ontime. In the hangar we couldn't even see them, just heard the very long roar of reversers. Kinda cool if you think about it.

Modern avionics is some neat stuff. We couldn't even get our overnight check into the hangar because of the near blackout conditions, and taxiways that were closed. Yet they flew in, and taxied to the gate, no biggie.

Yes!

Thanks for the link.  That's precisely what I need.  The only catch is that it would sit behind a dark lense...unless I tuck it someplace else.  But that would give me the input to the motors for the dome rotation, body pivot and such.

Chairboy, move the light and cam battery from the barrel to the top of the turret. Mount the cam on top of the barrel further back, closer to the turret. This will allow for slightly larger light(s) and more mobility of the camera. Hot glue and cardboard should make a suitable turret lighting mount and still be easily removed for "combat" with a hairdryer.
