OSTI Information
« on: January 03, 2005, 07:56:29 AM »
I am looking for some input about OSTIs as far as game play is concerned. They will be used for the "How to Aim in an Ostwind" page of the Armoured Brigade sections on the Grave Diggers Web Site. I' pretty sure the Max Range is 3.2k. Facts I am looking for are when you lead an aircraft what is the distance from the center of the cross hair to the ring in the sight at Zoomed out, 1/2 Zoom, and Zoomed In. Also how high do you lead regarding a ground target?

According to all the flyboys, the Osti is a "point-n-click" type of veh which requires no skill and is used by all dweebs and noobs.

I would be happy to share with the GraveDiggers any info on the Ostwind {Eastwind}

Have a great day!

I'm glad most in the MA don't know about my 60% hit ratio in an Ostie.  Well, now they do.   Keep "avoiding Zazen" to fly near mine.  :rofl

There is alot of good information there. Hopefully it will improve my success at base defense.  Passing shots almost always have failed for me.  Headon shots are a crap shoot.  It seems that a low level pass coming head on ought to be an easy shot and yet  I get no hits a surprising amount of the time even though I have tried different amounts of allowance for bullet drop.

Strange though, I got 5 kills in one sitting the other night with the hull MG after the turrent was knocked out.  Does the MG shoot straighter than the cannon?

i dont got enough perkies as it is and i like upen my lancs to kill 1 dang t 34 or wirble its fun droping 42 bombs

Yes it does under 1k.

Notice when shooting the main gun in the Ostwind that there is a small randomness to the shell's exact trajectory. The best way to observe this is to shoot at a stationary point. The shells in the main gun of the Ostwind do not fly to the exact same point every time you fire even if you do not move your aiming point, there is a spread pattern. With time and practice you will intuitively know the average location those shells will travel to and learn to hold that position regardless of those near misses over which you have no control and in doing so score a hit the majority of the time if your aim is accurate, especially at distances 1.2k or less as I recommend in my original post on this subject. This distance is important because it allows you time to fine tune your aim prior to the key 1k distance. At that distance an average sized fighter will occupy the entire space that constitutes the intrinsic margin of error of the Ostwind shell's trajectory, this virtually guarentees you a hit if your aim is accurate. Fluid movement when tracking for deflection is also key.

Zazen, cut the BS.  You have repeatedly killed me from 2.5K out.  Now that would be interesting information, lol

Yes, I can do that, but only because I have an exceptional talent for deflection shooting. I would not recommend that kind of distance for your average person...

I apologize if I seem self-congratulatory, I am just stating facts. The average person trying to reproduce my results will enjoy nothing but frustration. The simple fact is, my innate talent for shooting at high deflection is singular insofar as I am aware, so my results are not realistically, reliably, reproducable by another. My Ostwind tip sheet was composed in a way as to suggest methods that would produce positive results for the common player.

My aptitude for deflection shooting is but one of my many talents...For example I can also fart and whistle at the same time...in perfect harmony no less. ;)
