Constant Low Light conditions and Fog
« on: January 02, 2005, 10:14:46 PM »
These two combined in the MA is getting very old. Sometimes you think your getting cataracts!
Is it ever High Noon in the MA? If so, Its for a short duration.
HT... watermelon Can the 24/7 Fog Crap please. Its very anoying to log on only to see the every time no matter the time of the day. I start blinking to clear the film from my eyes! I am one of those that hated the night time in the MA. Im all for bringing back night time if it means a more realistic time cycle.

AMEN to that. It's either sunrise or sunset 90% of the time. Seems like I am always flying directly at the nuclear blast Sun. Crap gives me a headache, along with most of the people I talk to in the game.

I'm starting to think that HT is gonna come out with an optional (for pay)  patch to give us aviator sunglasses to cope with the "Nuking" sun. ROFLOL

Fog has been turned off in the Main Arena since the arena was reset last Wednesday.

Have no idea what you are referring to about the time.  The arena time is the same as it has been for, at least, the last 6 months.  It goes from morning to afternoon, then back again.

The current map that you just reset to (Uterus) ... appears to be a little "foggy" to me when looking towards the horizon.

Ok, I should not have said it was turned off.  Rather, it is at the default it has been at since Aces High II started up, which is 16 miles.

Aside of the fog, everything is too dark. Every time I get into MA I look for the sun East or West, but, surprise, is at top but the ambient light is like that of a snowing winter day.

Maybe it has been the same Time setting for 6 months. The Fact is i personally haven’t bothered complaining about it till now. It doesn’t mean I haven’t noticed it, nor does it mean that i have liked it. Trying to be patient here. But enough is enough.  As for the "FOG", I dont like it. Sorry... it's just my opinion on the matter. I geuss the fog as a static condition is what bothers me the most. But the two combined is making for a very unpleasant game.

In the 3D graphics realm, the term 'FOG' applies to a condition which allows distant objects to fade in and out of view.  It helps reduce the workload on video cards.

If there is a real-world corrolary, it would be 'haze'.

The haze isn't a big problem to me, I actually liked it the way you had it before for a short time. Reason is it reduced the effect of the sun to me. It's the Sun that most wish was toned down abit.

Yes there is a real world "corrolary" (Is this a word?)  Its about time someone from HTC used the correct term. Too bad they used the term “Fog” in the arena settings menu and confused hundreds of players.
I certainly understand trying to reduce the workload of video cards. But i can tell you that it doesn't help FR at close range where it is most needed. At least it hasn't for me. Kinda seems like a gimmick to me.
BTW...is the current arena clock linier from Dusk till Dawn? I doesn’t feel that way. If so could it be changed up a bit? So as the USA players can play in the evening at high noon sometimes?

Thank You

The clock is linear, from dusk to dawn.  What times do you typically play Mugz?

The 'haze' effect is not a hack at all.  If it was not there, at all, then the entire world would have to be rendered all the time.
The use of the word FOG is quite correct, in terms of 3D design/graphics.  This is how the video card companies, and 3D standards (OpenGL/DirectX) have labelled the effect.
