Yet another terrain builder newbie question...

Id like to have a working clipboard map. I built the terrain, then copied the files to the TE1, make map there (size 512) and get a fine map.bmp.

Then i copied the bmp back to the TE2 folder, build the terrain. clipmap no show.

What am i doing wrong?

Create a folder called texsrc in the same folder as your terrain.

Change the color depth of map.bmp to 256 colors 8 bit and rename it to the same name as your terrain.

Save the renamed bmp to the texsrc folder you created above.

Build your terrain and you now have a working clipboard map.

Thanks a lot for the quick help NHawk. Now i dont get lost on 500 square miles of new, still unstructured terrain anymore...

Got another prob though: When putting a map room on an airfield, its always sitting amidts the runway. Remedy to that found in another thread.
Now, as i usually add towns owned by the airfield, do i need a maproom at all? or can i put it in town as well? (or does the town have a maproom by default?

Schatzi - a field can only have 1 map room associated with it so you can put it on the field or in the town but not both.  I don't think the standard town object contains a maproom so you'll have to install one whether you associate towns with your airfields.

Cheers,

Thanks a lot. I think ill create a small 64m map with three or four AF each country first.
See if i can get it working as i'd like it to, and then expand fom there...

I guess the 512 m MA map is still awhile off.

Until then, ill keep peppering you with questions...:D

The town objects have the map room built in, you don't need to add a map room IF you use the pre-built town.

In AHII Editor the make map function doesnt work.

For Mapmaking download the AH1 Editor from the Terrains Homepage (link on HTC Homepage) and install it. Then copy your comlete myterr folder in the terrains folder. start ah1 editor and open your terrain. if you change the time to late evening, you can avoid the sunglare on the map. then use the make map function. it will create a map.bmp in the respective terrain folder.

i hope this helps.

Umm...either I've missed something, or there is no link on the AH homepage to AH-Terrains. :)

Did you save the map bmp as a 256 color?

The only stupid question is the one not asked.

The easiest way is: open the bmp in windows paint. then just  click save as... and change the file type to 256 color bmp. its gonna tell you itll loose color information, just click ok.
