Things I believe but can't prove:

1)The P-51 was a better fighter than the Spitfire Mk.14
2)Alien life-forms exist
3)Giant squid ate sailors during World War II

This gets better and better. Now I'm insulted, and called a liar, by someone who has a very poor grasp of punctuation.

That good BBQ is really a gift from the Ghods and was brought here by an advance civilization from another galaxy. All those "burnt offerings" you read about in the Bible are a garbled history of this fact.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Guess I should dive in with my own...

I believe that there is no god. That said, I do believe that there was a man named Jesus Christ.

I believe that there is extraterrestrial life. I do not believe it has ever visited Earth.

I believe that death is the end. It's not a gateway. It's not a transition. Life simply ends. I must admit, that sometimes this is a troubling thought.

Sandy, I'm the most pragmatic person you'll ever know, but I've had the existance of the spirit, and life after death, demonstrated to me. Not through faith, because at the time I had little, but through actual physical manifestation.

I'm your huckleberry. IQ of 153 & SAT scores high enough to exempt UH's pre-req's. Wait, nevermind... I'm not from Texas. I just live here.

153 not bad did you get that report from emode.com

Dictionary.com

intelligence quotient
n. Abbr. IQ

The ratio of tested mental age to chronological age, usually expressed as a quotient multiplied by 100.

well considering the mental age of these boards your actual score may be closer to 1000......(hence a legend in your own mind.)

I believe in rainbows, and puppy dogs and fairy tales. And I believe in the family: Mom, and Dad, and Grandma, and Uncle Todd, who waves his noodle.

And I believe in 8 of the Ten Commandments, and I believe in going to church every Sunday, unless there's a game on.

And I believe that sex is one of the most beautiful, wholesome, and natural things that money can buy.

And I believe it's derogatory to refer to a woman's breasts as "boobs", "jugs", "winnebagos", or "golden bozos". And you should only refer to them as "hooters".

And I believe you should place a woman on a pedestal, high enough so you can look up her dress.

And I believe in equality, equality for everyone, no matter how stupid they are, or how much better I am than they are.

And people say I'm crazy for believing this, but I believe that robots are stealing my luggage.

And I believe I made a mistake when I bought a 30-story, one-bedroom apartment.

And I believe that the "Battle of the Network Stars" should be fought with guns.

And I believe that Ronald Reagan can make this country what it once was: an arctic region, covered with ice.

And I believe the United States should let all foreigners in this country, provided they can speak our native language: Apache.

And lastly, I believe that of all the evils on this earth, there is nothing worse than the music you are listening to right now.

But isn't "truth"  the end result of the process of belief anyway? (Or falsehood for that matter.)

Eg. You can "prove" to me that the sum of one and one is two; but only because I believe in the value that was pretty much randomly assigned to a certain symbol.

Or tell a 6 year old that Santa Claus isnt real. And that he doesnt fly around the world behind 8 tiny reindeer and delivers gifts to 6 billion people in one night. That kid wont believe a word that came out of your mouth (hopefully) and as far as he or she is concerned Santa Claus IS real. No "proof" required.

The only reason anything is "true" or can be "proved" is because a group of people (however large or small) happened to PERCEIVE things the same way at a certain time.

And that being said, human perception is not always that reliable. Think of witness reports from a armed robbery or something...people even sometimes mess up the gender of the perp.

Point is, anything is true as long as you believe it is.

i can assume that the matter that i am made from has the capacity for cognitive thinking, therefore, i have little difficulty believing that my ability to reason is nothing compared to the larger consciousness which exists in higher systems such as terrestrial and perhaps even universal cognition.

therefore, i am comforted in believing that death is merely an egoless absorbtion into that greater consciousness.
