Tsunami - Support idea
« on: January 06, 2005, 03:28:40 PM »
Hello all,

This may seem like a silly idea and it may not be practical but, I thought I would just toss it out.

As a show of support for the victims of the Tsunami disaster and as a way of raising awareness and promoting solidarity in our own community I would like to suggest we undertake the following scenario:

A large flight of c47s consisting of pilots from all countries would fly from one location to another. Perhaps even a tour around each HQ. At a selected location the goons would drop their supplies.

In order to avoid any "trigger finger slips" I suggest escort be provided by one country's fighters only.

Pretty basic...I know and maybe as I said it's a "silly idea" but, it would raise awareness among our community and we should certainly encourage anyone participating to make a donation to the relief fund.

Comments are most welcome.

Thanks!

I would call this symbolism over substance.

Do you really think our awareness needs to be raised? It has been on and still is on EVERY news broadcast since Dec 26th.

If you really want to help, do something with substance, not symbolism. Go down to your Red Cross or other local relief organization and help them.

Symbolism it is. That I think was the point but, perhaps my choice of words were less then perfect. Often symbolism leads to greater substance.

You make an excellent point however and you are right...if you haven't donated time or money then I certainly encourage you to do so!

For Canadians I suggest:

i think its a nice idea..and one i would take part in, depending on the start time..
but a better one would be to spend the time it would take to fly this mission and use it to gather up any unwanted clothing, wash it, bundle it up and take it along to your nearest red cross centre..
also any unwanted childrens toys can bring a little normality into an otherwise desperate situation..

be wary of any e-mail that come to you asking for donations, there have already been some evil people trying to profit from the suffering..

mass furball to finish it right?

68DevilM,

Comments on the idea I suggested not your personal feelings regarding the sad state of social politics relating to the region and religions. Of course you knew that but, made an attempt to present your comment as relevent by quoting me. I just gave you an opening to express your frustration so you scribbled on the wall. I appreciate your feelings but, your comment is out of place. We can't change the bigotry and ignorance of some people in positions of power overnight but, we can put that aside and help those people just like us who only want to live and let live and have lost everything they own.

It was just a thought (good or bad) which I hoped might bring the community a little closer. I don't mind it being a bad one.

Thanks,
hh
