looking for background music (elevator music?)
« on: January 08, 2005, 04:24:26 PM »
I friend of mine owns a trendy bar/coffeshop/somekindofplace.

He has given me the task of finding some music for him to play in the background. Maybe kida jazzy? dunno.

Not annoying music, but something he can use in the daytime and early evning while people sit down and talk while sipping their coffe or just reading the paper or interior decorating magazines :D

It a really cool place with a quite atmosphere in the daytime and its a nightclub in the weekends.

The furiture in the place is kinda 70's with modern features.

I'm gonna help him out a few nights a week behind the bar serving coffe and booze. the customers are kinda trendy people from 18 to early 30's

If anyone has heard the album "Lisa Ekdal sings Salvadore Poe" you know the general idea.

Dig up Pocos "Legend" album.  Good stuff I think.  Lots of other good stuff out there.

the magnetic fields.

they do a GREAT rendition of "if i were a rich man" (from fiddler on the roof)

i heard it in a swanky cafe in new orleans once and had to scour kazzaa to find out who it was.

you can download it free at amazon.com (have to search, link wont work) or find it on a file swapper
or send me an email and i will happily forward it to you.  they make alot of good "coffee shop music"

its the first thing that came to my head.

its not "musical"-ish at all, but it is haunting.
this thread is doomed.

Thx for the tips again dago, but this is not a country bar out in the sticks :D :D

If the sample tune by this guy poco is representative of his work i would have to hire 10 jiihad bodybuilders to get the farmers out of the place :D

Think more sax, female voice, piano and less rusty old man with prostate problems and 4 packs of smokes a day.

:D

Does any of the big online record shops offer some kind of "similar music" tips like they do when you pick a movie?

Nilsen, try anything from Matt Bianco or Basia. Very slow and jazzy, great for creating a mood.

His last work, Matt's Moods, is a perfect example (Listen to "La Luna" if you can)
