If you go to the HTC homepage, then Help, then Getting Started, then Game Play, the first sentence reads:

"Capturing territory through the use of air, land and sea power is the objective of Aces High."

Then you read this first introductory paragraph on the home page, the main page of the site, and all it seems to talk about is fighting, battling the "science of vintage WW2 air combat" and "High fidelity air combat." Not even a mention of field capture, nor one elsewhere on the home page as far as I could tell (with the exception of some generic "the battle rages 24 hours a day" which could mean the war or it could mean intense fighting.

Quote
Aces High takes the art and science of vintage WWII air combat and sets it in an online high intensity environment where hundreds of players can battle it out with and against each other.  High fidelity air combat is the heart of Aces High, but it doesn't end there.  In addition to flying a multitude of aircraft types, players can also man vehicles, boats, amphibs, gun batteries, and ships.  It's the most diverse virtual arsenal available to players in this genre and it's constantly growing through frequent updates.  In the air, on land, and at sea, the battle rages 24 hours a day with participants from around the world.

Unfortunately, intense player vs. player combat is contradictory to what is currently the most efficient way to win the war (for much of a map). That doesn't have to be the case, but for now that's how it works out. This is a game infrastructure issue that is up to HTC to solve, or not solve, as they see fit.

Exactly. Why fly in MA if you dont care about bases, strat, captures. Seems like the quality of dogfits would be better in the DA given that is all that goes on there. Maybe its because they get splashed in the DA and need to shoot down jabos or newbs to feel good.

I do not care about taking bases or losing bases. I have fun flying a fighter, bomber, driving a tank, being a gunner.  I am having a ball do everything.

So I do not care about base taking per se.

How about this for a new map.

3 continents separated by large bodies of water, the 3 continents all come together at a single points. In the water are some islands that have bases on them not many but strategically placed.

The only way any one country can get a foot hold on any of the other countries continents is either to attack at the point where they all meet , island hop across the water or attack from CVs.

In the early stages of the map this would limit the number of bases that could be effectively attacked allowing for more concentrated defense. It would also increase the importance of CV's making for some serious CV battles. It would also increase the use of long range bombing. Though I know people don't want to fly 20 minutes to bomb a base. Not to mention the use of CV based bombers which are completely neglected in the current maps

The horders won't have a choice but to attack strategic bases. The furballer can be there waiting for them.

I know there are probably a 1000 reasons why some think this is a bad idea but it made sense to me. Serious combat, good air battles and base capture that actually has some meaning.

Zanth. You are forgetting one important fact. The "Poach factor"
Poaching in AH is my reference to the act of seeking out Fighters that are heavy laiden with Bombs and Roc's. Then you follow them into the base and lightem up as they are on climbout after their drop. This is in my opinion the act responsible for 80% of the so called "Air Combat" in AH. This is what keeps the "Fighters only players" outa the DA and in the MA showing their skill.

Yeah you're remembering correctly MugZ.
We own two businesses and I've got several nice old WW2 and pre WW2 1911's.

But when I bail out and start walking around with that Colt in my hands... I start to twitchich. Why can't I just get one bullet!?:)

Base Capture would be great....if it involved Base Defense....which it doesn't usually.

The vast majority of Base Capture action that I see is a gargantuan cluster of one country (rook, knight, bishop...they all do it) hitting an undefended base.

If a large defensive group does happen to show up, the Base Capture folks tend to run away to some other less threatening area to continue their pursuit of the "Holy Grail" of Aces High......"field AXXX has been captured by country xxx"

That said I like it when on the rare occasion a base can be fought for and over by opposing countries.  It just doesn't seem to happen much anymore.

P.S. I always thought that DA stood for Dueling Arena...not Furball Arena.  I really think that if there were a furball type of area within an existing map it would be full all the time.  In fact I thought that the CT was designed more for the strat type players in the game.  I've noticed that it's been quite full of late, I suspect because there is some "Base Defense" going on in there.

I'd be willing to bet the A2A guys could take a field much easier then the toolshed guys.  I've yet to see an impressive base capture from the "win the war crowd" where the enemy was present...

Squad loves captures
« Reply #44 on: January 14, 2005, 10:21:08 AM »
Our squad loves base captures....in December, I think we took 100 Bases.... it's all about the reset!

Somehow, we manage to get kills while we are at it, imagine?

Right now we have at least 4 of the top 10 ranked pilots in the game.. (Here is where the thread shifts to "Rank don't mean squat").   Rank isn't my point though...I am merely saying you can do it all while capturing bases.

Forgotten, but back in the game.  :)
