Refecting upon these 47 years...we did the Pledge of Alligence in school and it was a proud thing to lead the class in either , America the Beautiful, Star Spangeled Banner or "This Land is Your Land".  Seen JFK...no not Kerry. I remember well where I was when Kennady was assasinated. Frisbees were new, Hula hoops too. Batman and Superman comics were a dime. Penny candy. Returning Pop bottles and getting a nickel. Heh Buffalo Nickels and Mercury Dimes. We had a Black and White Zenith TV that had to warm up for 30 minutes to get a picture.  TV...LOL Red Skelton, Ozzie and Harriet, Milton Burle, Dick Van Dyke.. Danny Thomas. Captain Kangaroo and Romper Room. The Mickey Mouse Club was the best, Hardy Boys, Lone Ranger, Dale Evans. Howdy Doody..No school buses, you walked to school..with friends.  Mothers Day was special as was Fathers day.  Schools never closed because of weather, you walked 3  or 4 blocks in the rain, snow, sleet or hail.  You either took your lunch to school or came home and it was usually Campbells tomato soup and a sandwich.  It was cool to be a Cub Scout. The Beatles were cool too and it was hard to understand the Rolling Stones. Cousins going to 'Nam and coming back really changed. Marijuana was the evil, no one really talked about it. We practiced Nuclear Attacks by ducking under our school desks, head down and eyes closed.  Polio innoculations...heh the sugar cube. Ramblers, Studebakers, Indians and Harleys. People prayed before eating dinner, even if you went to a friends house for dinner.  Everyone loved Smokey the Bear. Cartoons were Black and White..Heckel and Jeckel, Mighty Mouse, PopEye. Tarzan, Godzilla was scary as was the Wizard of Oz. I cried when Beaver was stuck in the Cup on the Billboard. Timothy and Goliath cartoons that were religious...no one complained. Cant forget the 3 stooges or the Marx Brothers..Burns and Gracie are tops.  Hell Man on the Moon. John Glenn was my Hero.

Just imagine how far we have become... amazing.

Wish we held the same beliefs today that we held dearly back then.

Then '68...Bobby Kennady, Martin Luther King killed, Mai Lai, Lt Calley trials, Tet. My Dad was in Nam then.  Really scared me as a 10 year old.

Mac, don't you mean Davy and Goliath? Also, if you were a kid in that era in North Texas, Icky Twerp and Slam Bang Theater were before and after school rituals on Channel 11.

Yeah Davey and Goliath... I always thought my dog was stupid cuz he couldn't talk like Goliath. LOL It was a sad episode when Davey was trapped in the boxcar...

My first bike was a Schwinn, red of course.  Wagons were red too. If you had a skate board that's what it was ...a board made from skates.  No shoe skates, skates were clamped on to yer shoes and anyone who was someone had a skate key.  Then the mass destruction of Baby Buggys and the homemade go~cart era began....the Go~Cart wars.  I think it began because of "Our Gang" Spanky and Buckweat, Alfalfa... times of eating animal crackers and watching Shirley Temple on TV.  There were no "artificial" Christmas trees.. they were all real and school Christmas plays...No one was offended.
I know I'm just scratchin the surface here, but those times were great.
