we use bonito for bait but sharks will hit almost any fish if they are hungry or nothing at all if they're not.  we can sometimes catch young lemon sharks on the flats with spinners.  those are a lot of fun to catch but we release them.

as a note sharks are apex predators and as such don't reproduce as much as other species.  they take a long time to reach sexual maturity and have lenghty gestation periods.  generally we release any females and only harvest the larger males.  just something to consider.

looks like charlie and friends landed three adolescent females.

I have caught several 40 pound catfish in the Ohio River.   Within a mile of where I fish, a man caught a 98 pound blue catfish a year ago.

The problem with society is not what you stated. The problem is parents who do not take the time to teach and instill values, respect for others, self respect and most of all just plain ole common sense. You are prime example of the end product.

BS
It has nothing to do with Values. Or respect, or common sense.
Politically correct has everything to do with it.
We're supposed to watch everything we say, do or joke about on the off chance someone might be "offended."
THAT is political correctness

Was it an off color joke? Yes

Was it a tasteless joke? Yes

But it was a joke nonetheless.

Someone with "Common sense" would see it is intended as a joke even if weren't found particularly funny by them and know Im not condoning what happened.
And just ignore it if they didn't find it amusing or even if they didn't like it..

Off color and tasteless jokes get told all the time.
Remember?
"What kind of wood doesn't float? Natalie"
Yes, Im sure her family loved that one.

there are probably hundreds of others people can come up with.

All that may "offend" someone cause something similar may have happened to someone they know.

But people with "common sense" realize such jokes are not aimed at them or about them

Now if you or someone here has had something similar happen.
That is truly a terrible terrible thing. And I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

BUT I was not referring to you or them now was I?

ROFL Evidently you don`t catch catfish much.

I've caught plenty of catfish, thanks.  They are mostly like pulling up logs.  Not hard to catch either.  Frozen meat soaked in vanilla, put on those circular hooks that set themselves..... piece of cake, and no skill required to catch them... unless you're a noodler.

I'm nost saying catfish don't fight at all, just not very much, pound for pound, say as smallies..... or bigmouths... or musky.

catfish is great tablefare but I have never experienced a fighting catfish.  I live on a lake that has access to the eastern everglades. we have several catfish species here and all of them are quite edible.  we also catch centropomus undecimalis (snook) (a neighborhood kid caught a 42lber last year but we couldn't find a certified scale in time) micropterus floridanus (large mouth bass)  cichla ocellaris (peacock bass) all of which put up nice fights, especially for fresh water fish.  we are also seeing monopterus albus (asian swamp eels) people here are having fits over this species.  I'm not sure what their impact will be but I intend to find out if they are edible, we haven't been able to get them to bite at anything yet.  they kind of stand on the bottom and point their heads to the surface.  does anyone know anything about this species?

Yea, lord knows the unpoliticaly correct crowd are never offended by what people say (Like when a Dixie Chick says she's embarrassed because her President is a moron).

You know it cuts both ways.
