I was flying around in a P51 yesterday.  I had selected the 4 guns 1800 rounds of ammo option.  I entered into a 1 v 1 with a 109 G10.  He was unable to out turn me or out run me.  I withheld shooting him for fun for a long time, the poor guy was trying everything he could think of to shake me and he just couldn't.  Two notches of flaps on the pony pretty much took care of all the handling I needed.  eventually he started a shallow climbing turn and started to put some distance between us so a D800m I placed the pipper slightly above his nose and to the left (he was spiriling up and left at about 2000fpm) I fired approximately 50 rounds, it looked like they all hit and he went *poof*.  I was utterly amazed.

Is this right???!!!!!???  my opponent was a guy that I would consider average just like myself.

does the ponie's modelling need to be turned down a bit?

I find a four gun mustang to be a pretty good turner vs. a G10(well so is a six gun version actually).  It really depends on how the G10 driver drives said G10.

A 109 (about any of em) will out accelerate a mustang in level flight.

A 109 will outclimb a mustang in sustained flight.

I think a mustang will outdive a 109 given both pilots are diving in the same manner (zero g or not zero g).

A mustang will zoom climb better than a G10 given both planes are at equal energy.

At high speed the mustang will outhandle all 109s with ease.  The mustang is still flying freely at the speed the 109 is pretty much locked up.

Some folks understand how to make the above relative characteristics work for them when flying a G10 vs a Mustang and cause large amounts of problems for the stang.  Given a choice they won't turn but will stay just out of the mustang's sight picture while in a spiral climb and absolutely blow a 51 away if the 51 driver doesn't recognize what's happening and falls for it.

Conversly if the G10 driver is flying the Mustang's fight then he will lose handily.

It all depends on how you fly whatever it is your flying vs whatever it is your flying against.

I don't think the Mustang flight model needs any work at all.

50 Rounds of 4 .50's at D800 -
Damage depends on convergence setting and range the hits take place.  I haven't found the .50 cals to be particularly strong at D800.

I suspect that 109 was previously damaged.

Just Guessing

thankyou for your answer.  the 109 was not previously damaged, we were the only two in the CT and we were over his base. the sprites appeared to be all over the cockpit/wingroot.  convergence on the pony was 650

Theres the answer why he exploded.  Lucky shot.

In AHI i was once under attack from a 262 in a P51-B mustang, i was around 10k, he came to my 6 o clock...

I dove to get as much speed as possible (to compress the 262) when he was 600 or so out, pulled up, rolled over and down onto him as he was pulling up after overshoot.

Tapped trigger, saw 1 ping, dead on canopy
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

Right, of course, lucky shot.  I was impressed none the less.  the pony really handles well.  I may have to try it in the MA.

sorry, didnt mean to make it look like i was having a pop there, but try flying 4 gun D or B pony regularly and you will realise its not always that easy.

I found B pony an exercise in frustration in AH2

Headshots have been made more realistic in AHII, a few well placed (actually lucky shot) .303 cal shells made me destroy a quite superior plane (Bf-109G-2 vs Hurricane (me)

Planes don't explode in AH, the pilots do.  You can reduce a plane to a million individual pieces but until the pilot dies, the plane won't explode.

Stop the pilots wearing C4 life jackets I say...

Fire will eventually burn out, thus making that part disintegrate. I.e. wing fire will burn out (literally) and as it burns out the wing falls off.... Of course a fuselage fire -- when it burns out your pilot is a charcoal!!! lol so that's why it explodes. Pilot kill.

speaking of the golden BB>..

last night in a 205, B&Zing a mission that was trying to climb out, me JB41 and JB11 were engaged with no less than 10 F6F's

while keeping alt and E in the 205 and F6f tried to follow me up LOL

in about a 75 deg climb wepped he had no chance, i had just dropped flaps (abotu 180 IAS) and looking back....

his icon was D1000+  (had the + sign) then it dropped to 1.0K

IIRC that means he was past 1K (inbetween 1 and 1.5K

i saw the tracers for a split second, then whap whap

pilot wound, wing cannon and flap damaged.

this was all done while he was falling over into a flat spin stall.

i immediatly went into a pilot wound blackout, so i could shoot him on the rope.

sorry, but any cannon or MG would never hit like those .50 LAZERS.
I don't know what to put here yet.

Sorry, but you're wrong.  Fly more Mossies, they lose wings due to fire all the time.

He might only have experience with wing fires in bombers. With bombers you never lose squat. In other planes (especially zeros, moss, hell even the 110) when the fire is done that piece is instantly 100% damage (effectively burnt off)
