Hot Wheels... and Money
« on: January 17, 2005, 10:04:18 AM »
check out this site:
http://www.toycarcollector.com/hot_wheels.htm

never knew what some of these are worth, until this weekend i was at a custom auto show, and a dealer had a display.

in the display was a glass case you needed assistance to look at. inside were hot wheel's toys costing $150+

for 1 car

looking through this guys rack, and the website...

im in the money, im in the money, im in the money!!!!!!

i must have over 300 hot wheels in my parents attaic, mostly in those old plastic cases with the blue trays.

i have spotted at least 10 i have worth over $100 a piece.

mind you these prices are for "decent" to "near mint" and 'd say 80% of my collection is better than "decent" but i don know of a few high priced ones that were my fav back then, and are beat to he11.

going to do an inventory tonight, hey i might even be able to pay off a couple credit cards if i play this right!

anyone else got alot of these?
I don't know what to put here yet.

I smashed over 100 of those things with a sledgehammer when I was like 14.  It seemed fun at the time.

I probably smashed a lot of $$$ worth of toy cars.  Some of them were really, really old.

unfortunately I never saved mine but handed them down to nephews and other younger relatives.   the sad part is that after looking at the money ones, I've had a few of them and most were thrown away early on.  they are often the ones that had a odd size or shape that made them not work with the 'power-house' and other accessories, or a narrower wheel-base so it zig-zag down the track bouncing off the curbs, they would be frustrating and I'd throw them out, and apparently so did a lot of other people.  plus word would get around and kids wouldn't buy those models so their production would get cut short.

what I really miss though is all the GI-Joe stuff I had (for you younger guys these were the real 11" tall GI-Joe's, not the little star-wars figure knock-offs.)  between me and the little brother we had just about every piece of equipment you could get.  unfortunately at about the time I lost interest in the toys I came into possession of a fairly large supply of fireworks.  I'd give you more details but I'm sure you can see where this is going.  plus it's long story and Joe don't come out too well in it.

i have the twinmill, red baron, and the beachbomb still in blister packs,
and at least 20 others from the 1st 3-4 years in ok condition . A guy has been bugging me for the twinmill for yrs now even went as high as 300 ,but im not that desperate yet .

i  started recollecting them in the mid 80's and i have about 300-500 in blisters and my baby roo has about 100 or so that he gets to enjoy . I cant wait til he's old enough and I can dig out the Models again  .

NwBie < -- sees the picture of JB73 whistling I'm in the money as he climbs mom and dad's attic stairs
Finding the Hot Wheels collection he also spots the loop track next to a set of encyclopedias, remembering his joyous days as a child, 73 sets up the track and says, "Wow, I had some fun times doing this, I'll just take the least worthy and try a few loop and jumps",
2 hours later JB73, slowly coming out of the almost drug like haze he has been in, looks at the carnage of shattered Hot Wheels cars at the other end of the attic floor, and starts giggling uncontrollably............... ..
