Well, I did it. I broke down and bought a major upgrade. It's not top of the line, but it should definately hold the fort until I can afford that. With the prices on Athlon XP's low and a good deal on a Geforce 6600 GT AGP, I went with that. Now my question is of ram.
I have a Asus A7N8E-X Delux motherboard and am running an XP 2600+ in it. The ram installed in the MB is a DIMM of 256 Meg PC 3200 DDR certified SPD. According to the motherboard, with Single Channel memory you can only populate one memory slot with a single DIMM at a time. Can I use my old stick of Rosewill DDR 333 256 meg in it as well? I realize it would slow the 3200 down to 333 mhz, but since the CPU is only a 333 FSB chip anyway, it shouldn't hurt the performance right?
That being said, my real questoin isn't of reduced performance, because I believe the extra 256 meg would benefit more than a slightly slower FSB. I really want to know if the MB will handle it.
The real question is, is my memory Dual Channel, and if so, does anyone have experience with using two different speeds of ram in the same A7N8x-e.
Thanks!
