If I could of thought of something, I would have led with it.  I was hoping that you were pissed off at something already.

Ya know it pisses me off.... People jumping to conclusions. Based on stereotypes combined with a world vision in miniature.

What, really, do you know?

Personally, I think sterotypes are valid.  Not only are they based in truth, but statistically they usually bear out.  Of course, only an idiot would bring them down to the level of personal interaction, but still, as an easy way to classify things, they work.

Yeah, much like rock.

Look in the rock section of yer local record store and pick something, and you basically have no idea what yer bringing home.

Are these the kind of statistics yer talking about?

Categories are useful, no doubt. They help put things into a tidy context. They turn a 10 minute story into a 2 minute story.

I wanna hear the 10 minute version - just me.

I mean it more basically than that.  For instance, to use a racial stereotype, black people like watermelon and fried chicken.  there is a historical basis for that, but does it hold true now?

No... or maybe...

I like steak.

Friend of mine likes chicken.

Another likes seafood.

This watermelon bullchit is stuff passed onto you.

You cannot ever truly grow if you clutch onto this kinda crap. Because in the end? Maybe they really DO eat that watermelon alla time. But...

'cares?

At the end of the day, the only thing that truly sucks is that yer basically just critisizing someone else's diet. Whooopty shrecking doo.

That is an example, Nash, and it is historically based, but I certainly don't think it is valid.  Another similar one would be Chinese operating laundries.  That is historically based as well.

In both examples, however, the sterotype was not voluntary to their race, it was forced upon them by their circumstances.  Yet today, both are considered to be stereotypes.

liberals are the people who in the moment of truth, see the guy in the watchtower with the rifle and the little cause that he holds and know its time to take him out.

lawrence of arabia, in the end it was the diplomats.

Those are no fun.  Are you afraid to discuss stereotyping or do you just have no interest?

I'm sure there is lots to be eked out of 'stereotyping'...

...but I guess it depends on what level you want to talk about it on.
