trasparent window reflection texture
« on: January 22, 2005, 01:44:19 AM »
I have seen transparent window reflection textures in alot of sims these days, any chance we will get some in ah? I think its  a simple way to get some emersion withought any real draw backs. Many ah cockpits are tinted already, just put a transparent layer on top of that and there ya go.  It does take some savey artistic skills to get it to look right tho, i bet natedogs up for a challenge:)

some refference,

the reflections can be pretty vague, and you dont need to show the pilot in them. Ultamately this will just give the glass some form, and make it more convincing.

That would be great. Along with the ultrasun we have now that can shine right through a clipboard we could have reflection laser beams bouncing around in the cockpit so it would be impossible to see in any dorection. The art of flying backwards would finaly get the attention it deserves.

Makes no sense to me.  A reflection would have to be caused by an intense light source inside the cockpit.  The reason you see it in the photos is because of flash photography.

Think of it this way.  When was the last time you saw a well defined reflection in the windshield of you car?

I think it would be nice if we could have something to define the presence of glass, but nothing THAT profound.

Thank You Scrap. :aok
Heck i wont hardly play AH2 unless the Sun is at 10 to 2 o-clock in the sky as it is. The blinding factor may be realistic. But i dont enjoy it in the least. Its just an irritation. I play for enjoyment.
I have to deal with Sun Glare in the Truck every day, who needs it while trying to unwind playing a "game."

the problem with doing this is that would extra texture in the tex mem could push some cards over the edge.  They tend to lower FR's a bit to on older cards and no one wants crappy frame rates in the pit.   Now if you make it an option to turn off and on that might work better.

i'm guessing that the glass now it only tinted cause nate and super have it set to that greyish color.  Its not texture mapped for the stuff above. That's if they are still using the same modeler that did in AH1.

i dont think most of you guys are understanding what im getting at. I hate to say this but look at il2, its not a moving texture and its defanantly not as pronounced as the photos i put in.  Its most pronounced in curved bubble canopys like the p51, and the me 163. You  really dont notice it unless you look closely. Its just a nice simple window texture, i think the ones we have are a bit bland, and this would be an easy addition if the artist executed it well.

What's wrong with trying to make the game LOOK as realistic as possible, and have the game we love to play so much?

Why say to hell with IL2 when it's the best looking game on the market? Eilif isn't saying make this game IL2, he wants AH2 like the rest of us, but why not make this game look better than it does now?

I don't know why you guys are so insulted by comparisons.

That may be your opinion, but certainly not mine. To me it`s teh suck. I view it as taking a single chocolate covered cherry, then wrapping it in an expensive flashy gold covered wrapper with filigree all over it then placing it on a shiny display case with all the gliitter to catch attention  and selling them for $2.00 a pop. When you bite into the heart of it, it is just a big disapointment.  You can go around the corner and buy a whole box by Brachs for a buck and a half. They are better tasting with more quality.
If IL2 is the shiznits for you then why not go play IL2?

HT and crew have bigger things in the works than trying to make the cigar ashes on the floor in the cockpit look like handrolled Cuban ashes. :D
