No, the actual proposal is to secede the state of New York from the USA, starting the campaign for this in the New York City. Actually it looks more like a slave revolt considering the several million immigrants living, working, and paying federal taxes in NYC.

But still Alaska has the better legal ground for such a move.

The problem is that the USA government is so blind that it's not preparing the American citizens for argumentative discussion in favor of the Union, but, as it was in the last millenium, the authorities are only ready to use the police methods. And this is not particularly good nor for the people nor for their government.    :(

Myself and ALOT of other people on the West side of New York hope that New York City would leave. Its a great city dont get me wrong. But, almost all of the State's money goes to Ney York City screwing the rest of us over. Buffalo is so far in debt that the zoo and all libraries are closing. 3,000 city workers were layed off yesterday. And theres the possiblity for a sales tax hike to 9.25 cents on the dollar. Cant wait for next years budget. Wont have anything left to shut down.

Yup. Why would NYC do us any favors?

Most of our state taxes flow to the city to keep it afloat meanwhile the rest of Rome burns.

Our best bet is that NYC sinks into the Atlantic.

Albany needs a wake up call.

Time to sight in my guns and dig out the ammo I think.

Man,  I hear ya, NYC should take care of it's own!  

Seperate them from the state.  

Up here in central NY we have some of the highest taxes around!  

We are looking into buying a house closer to where my wife works.  $220K house and yearly taxes are $6-7K.  That adds $500 on to the monthy mortage.  Crazy!

My first inclination is to let them go.

On the other hand, if NYC is allowed to secede, the federal government will have to apologize to the southern states.

I was thinking the opposite,  if this happened dems would pick up the newly created sentate seats for the state..  

Would this also mean they would get additional electoral votes?  

If this is true I don't see any red states standing for that....

BEET, I'm not a citizen nor a subject of any country. And I'm not going to follow any RULES laid out by illiterate monks some eleven hundred years ago. Only the proud gentlemen like yourself can be proud that there are more than a thousand rules of spelling in the English language.
And the doubling of the letters is redundant because these letters are not pronounced. So the CORRECT spelling is "milenium".
Instead of finding misspelt words in my posts you'd better advocate for the TOTAL reform of spelling in the English language. It's high time to do that. It's not the first, but the third 'milenium' we live in now.   :D
