"LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - At least 10 people were killed and nearly 200 injured on Wednesday when two Los Angeles commuter trains collided after one struck an automobile left on the tracks in what authorities called an aborted suicide attempt by a "deranged" man.

Police and fire officials said the man slashed his wrists and stabbed himself in the chest shortly before parking his Jeep Cherokee on the tracks. But he jumped clear at the last moment and watched as the two high-speed trains smashed together and derailed in a fiery wreck"

What an idiot, don't they have the death penalty in California? Let the Govt help him on his way.

Well dont hold out for it. I am sure an insanity plea or some such bs is coming. Gonna be hard for him to prove insanity after all he did jump out before the train hit.

The guy has tried to commit suicide several times.  What makes you think he's going to appeal a death sentence?

I say in this case, cruel and Unusual doesn't apply.  Keep him alive for 10x60 years, torturing him constantly.

I'm not sure why this sorry individual would warrant torture.  Put him down quickly and humanely.  And maybe install some of these to help out others in need...

unfortunatly the CA crim code on murder will probably not get this guy to special circumstances--need intentionality, he was merely criminally reckless (just a guess on how they indicte) so proably somthing like 1st degree manslaughter or some such nonsense

I couldnt believe how angry I was today. My mother rides the metro every day at that time, workin in L.A....I sat at work horrified thinking the worst. I finally got a hold of her at work, she told me it was the train before her that was in the wreck.

15 minutes

Thats the time between trains down here.

To believe that someone can be so selfish, to think they have no impact on anyone else's life.

Well, this one had an impact on hundreds if not thousands of lives.

I can't imagine what I would've done if my mom happened to leave  alittle early for work, if that madman chose an intersection alittle closer to home.

I was relieved, but at the sametime so disturbed as how one individual can refuse to belive there is anyone but themselves that can be hurt, that suffer.

Only one does it take to ruin everything.
To all the lives lost, to all the families tradgedies, to all the injured tonight I pray for, and I hope many can learn that suicide kills more than one person.

You still believe that cruel and unusual torture is out of the question?

That guy will surely hope he would've just stayed inside the car.
