Is the worst company in America today. I bought snowblower a few years back. The first year I had it, something twisted inside it and had to be totally rebuilt. Cost me money. The next year I couldnt start it unless I heated the block with a hair dryer for 20 minutes. This year I call them because it wont start, and they send a guy 2 weeks later. He has to order a primer line...order a primer line..for a very common machine. Wtf is in his truck? Donuts?

So we wait a week and recieve the part UPS. He comes back the following week. Says the the carb is bad. Sooooo...then he wants to be paid for the work thats been done so far. Well..Im desparate cause its been snowing alot, and I cant keep beggin my neighbor to plow me out. So I pay him for the call...and ask him to check over the machine and make sure there is nothing else wrong, becuse I dont want him back again.

Soooo...we wait another week. We get the new carb. Now the day Sears is supposed to show up..they call. Both me and my wife are home sick. I get to the phone to slow and the recorder picks up. As the girl on the other end is yapping her message I pick up and say hello..hello..Im here...and she stops saying what she was saying, and hangs up. WHat a fuggin crack!!!

Soooo...my wife calls Quears and after15 mins on hold, she is told since we missed the call, we are to be rescheduled for next week. FUG EM IM DONE!  NEVER BUY AT SEARS!!! THEY HAVE NO SERVICE YOU ARE JUST THROWING YER MONEY AWAY!!!!!

Ever stop to think that there might be a high demand for those types of parts being the fact most of you guys up there are snow bound?

I know last summer I had to get my mower and trimmer serviced those stupid crappy primer push button things are crap I tell ya!! It took a month for me to get both my mower and trimmer back! That was before they told me to get a new trimmer beacuse it need a new carb! BTW, that was done at a local small motor shop. Sears wanted twice as much to fix'em.

Since then I now pay someone to come do the lawn, cause I'm to busy to do the lawn. I sold the mower and trimmer.. it covered the cost for the lawn service for the year.

But I feel for yas..

Hmm, I've had nothing but great service from Sears. They have been out once to replace a valve in my dishwasher. Showed up exactly when they said they would.

My sister has a Sears lawnmower and they have always showed up on time for repairs. Trust me, she is very hard on that mower.

Sounds like you just have a bad local repairman. Call the main office and complain, I bet they make it right.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Unless your stuff is still under warrenty go to your local small engine repair shop. They have parts for most all small engines in stock and they are cheaper than dealing with Sears.

Well I'm a lil biased since I work one day a week there but the main reason I continue to work there is the employee discounts.  Since i bought the house, I've bought oodles of tools and house stuff...snowblower among them.

Im glad I did the extended coverage, it wasnt a lot considering what local shops charge for house calls.  Had one problem with the snowblower the first time I was checking it out and tried to start it.  Turns out the plastic "key" wasnt engaging/contacting properly...it was chipped.  Easy 10 minute fix with the right part.

I went local with my new washer & dryer, at the suggestion of my parents who had done business with this local firm for ages.  Not only did they botch the install, the refused to clean up the mess (they didnt hook up the exhaust water parts for the washing machine!).  70 gallons of water wasnt fun to clean up.  If I had it my way, I wouldve bought them at Sears, where I would've saved some money *and* known if they botched the install, they'd come and take care of things.

I've heard the complaints, the horror stories and such where I work.  It goes both ways.  Ive heard customers irate that the dryer they bought died 2 years later and didnt get the extended coverage, or someone having a big screen go on the fritz a few years down the road (turns out their power system surged, hit by lightening).

Like any store, your mileage may vary.

for the price Craftsman tools can't be beat.

for life take any wrench / whatever back and they give you a brand new free one even without a recipt.

took a 35 year old rachet back a few years back, walked out with a brand new rachet in less than 5 min.
I don't know what to put here yet.

Sears has a policy of paying called up Gaurdsman the difference between their army pay and what they made at Sears.  They also extend the called up Gaurdsman's health benefits to the spouses and childern for the duration.  For this reason alone I go there first to look for what I am buying.

Ever wonder how that warrantee started?
I was wandering through a library a while back and noticed a book on the history of sears so I started flipping through it.
One section went something like this
Seems Sears was originally a traveling watch salesmen, Eventually he opened his own store and started offing his unconditional guarantee.

On customer inquired about the guarantee and how unconditional it was. Sears told him if it ever broke for any reason he would replace it for free no questions asked.
With that the man took the watch out of his pocket, dropped it on the ground and stomped on it. Then picked up the now destroyed watch and placed it o the counter.
without batting an eye Sears reached behind the counter and gave him a new one.

Sear must be rolling in his grave now to see what it has become
Used to be you needed anything anything at all you could get it from sears.
They even sold Kit Houses at one point and Patton himself used to order replacement parts for his tanks in the years between WWI and WWII (often paying for them out of his own pocket)

Every year I remember going through the sears catalog looking for the things I wanted for Christmas
Then I guess the bean counters took over and headed the company away from what made it great and ruined it in the process as they usually do.
Sears used to be THE store.
Now its merely A store.

BTW I've done the same thing  numerous times.

A bunch of years ago I took back a 3/4 Rachet I managed to not only break but bend by sliding a length of pipe over the end and using it as a breaker bar.

Like you was out of the store with a new one in less then 5 min.

BTW if you check, many of them arent new but refurbished.

whatever,. Free is still free

Also brought back screwdrivers but they are far less interesting LOL
