Taking huge fps hit with animated water in 2.02
« on: January 28, 2005, 05:08:51 PM »
Hello,

Im losing up to 70fps whwen i turn on animated water. My computer is prety strong so I normally run at the 85fps of of my monitors refresh rate pretty much all the time.  In previous versions the animated water seemed to have no performance loss for me at all.

But now when I turn on animayed water the fps drops to between 25 and 15fps and stays there even if I'm alone over water and with all other detail options turned low and off.  In fact toggling those options has no effect either way.

System is:

Athlon 64 3200+ 939pin
Radeon 9700pro latest drivers as of 3 weeks ago
1 gig Corsair XMS PC3200
Asus A8V

It's the opposite for me, I used to get a huge fps loss with the previous version. Now the fps loss is small.

I'm Like jorgi, Frame hit on old water was huge! now it is minor. Still fly with animated water off, with new water it is hard to tell your ALT above water when you are on the deck. It is kind of like a White-out thing. But I guess this would be a Blue-out.:D

Grunhertz - just checking, do you Anisotropic Filtering turned off/set to application preference.  If it's on the water will definately kill FR.
