How do you guyz land on the carrier

?
I try it but at some low altitude (I think about 500 ft) the damn thing vanishes from sight. I only see it again a few seconds later at about 300 ft. Is this a game bug or a problem with my videocard?????
I can continuously see the wake in the water though.....

Well I"ve never seen the carrier vanish...you will not be able to see it through your cowling if your appproach is real shallow.

Some guys come at it from an angle to keep the boat in view at all times. I use a dead 6 approach. Maintian throttle at about 130 - 150 until very close to fantail. Once I see the wires I chop throttle, kick some rudder and pray.

My first succesful CV landing was after about 100 failed attempts.

I modify the forward view while landing on a CV. Raise the seat and move to the far left or right. You'll get occasional glimpses of the deck and can adjust your approach.

I find that if I come in at an angle I can keep the deck in site longer. Keep a steep approach and keep power on. (Don't expect to land with 0 throttle). The last couple of hundred feet you will lose site of the deck.. when this happens use the tower as a point of reference. You should be full flap, low throttle (not off), hook down and gear down moving about 110-120 mph comin in steep. When you see the wires come into view set her down.. Hard is ok with carrier craft as they tend to not break as easily

The carrier dissapears? Try enabling or disabling the PALLETE feature on the VIDEO options.

To land on a carrier is easy..and even easier if you have a plane with a tail hook.

Line up with the cv (the BACK of the CV of course!), with about 2k alt, and lower your throttle. You need to have your plane at about 120 mph when you land, so do your best to slow down to that.

Trim the elevator to the bottom (to avoid it pulling your nose up and stalling you), and drop full flaps. I usually raise my point of view so that I can keep sight of the cv tower (it helps you see if you are still aligned with cv).

When you hit the deck with your wheels, cut the engine.

I can give you a film of landing a P-38 on the cv.

I attempted landing a B-17 on a carrier back a few months ago. Needless to say I lost sight of the carrier when I went under the water about 400 feet short.

Thanks for the responses guyz...
I also do manual carrierland ings in Jane's F/A-18 so I know what u all mean....
But its not a visibility issue. I can clearly see the carrier along with the other ships. Then once im low (even after readjusting my head positon in a Arado 234)....whoosh.....all I can see is the wakes in the water.........
It lasts for a few seconds only, but that seems enough to put me off course, sufficiently. When they suddenly appear again I find usually that I'm too high or too low and usually end up with a bad head on with the deck or overfly it.
My videocard is from the jurrasic era so I guess if nobody else has the problem, it must be that.....
Incidently, on a little further low alt flying I find that even buildings vanish (though for a shorter time duration) and reappear........

Best carrier landing ive seen to date was Mitsu landing his Lancaster on the CV. I circled above in an F6F watching. After touchdown, he managed to back it up to the rearm on the CV. All was well and good, till he tryed getting a fully ladened Lanc up off the CV.

By the way, here is a small terrain map that you can use to help practice landing on cv's.
It spawns your plane about 3 miles away from carrier at ? altitude (don't rem. think it was 3000 ft).
It has two type of landings available to you.
1) the carrier is not moving
2) the carrier is moving away from you.

My biggest problem landing on a carrier is that someone tends to turn it right at that critical last part of approach.

Landed a 262 on the CV, turned around and rearmed but the damn thing started turning and didn't quite make it off. This was in the TA and didn't have the film on

Never tried again but I bet you could get it off(no pun intended).

Hammerhead,I had same problem.It is a video card setting.You approach CV and then it vanishes.Same with ground targets and low nme planes when you scrape the deck...Disable anti-aliasing in your video settings...I was also able to see cons through mountains and cockpit art before I disabled..Hope this helps..<S!>

...just head to the CV from the dead 6 pos and "aim" for the far end of the deck. Don't be too steep...all will work out.
