Smoke from tires:
Good idea, but it only happens on initial touchdown.
The continuing smoke on landing rolls, and takeoff,
simply indicates a locked brake or gear fire....and is not realistic.
Glare:
It's still here and worse than ever.
With no nighttime, the diurnal cycle is so fast that it's
always either dusk or dawn....thus making it hard to see
targets...making the glare very annoying much of the time....
and largely negating whatever imaginary advantages there
are to trading realism for continuous daytime.
Horizons and Turn Indicators:
All AH horizons and turn indicators continue to be flawed.
The horizons have no pitch indices or sky pointer...thus
rendering them useless for fighters and nearly useless for
heavies. This isn't just a realism omission, it's an operational
hazard as well.
The turn indicators do not function as turn indicators, but as
bank indicators only....which makes them useless and un-
realistic.
Legitimate Concern:
In the years I've been a continuous member of either WB
or AH, I've seen many improvements but also some strange
steps backwards.
We used to have beautiful winter wonderland airports in the
northern sectors of the map...snow on the ground and plowed
runways. This has vanished.
We used to have more clouds to fly in. Now mostly gone.
We used to have a significant period of nighttime. Gone now.
Some of us have begged for years to get a few radio beacon
approaches installed with some airports below VFR limits.
This has been ignored.
My concern is that as other sims add and improve these
features, we will be left out. Right now the biggest advantage
of AH over the other games is the connectivity and radio com
which is supurb. This allows for a real "community."
If the other sims ever get a handle on this one advantage we
currently enjoy, things could go south.
Adverse yaw bug:
The adverse yaw bug is still with us. This has been here
since WarBirds 1.0 and still obtains. The few of us that are
aware of this have learned to ignore it, over the years.
But why? I've been flying WB/AH for nine years and may not
live long enough to see it fixed, at this rate.
Stuff that works right:
This post doesn't mention the millions of things that work right
and the great job HiTech does .... but only what this writer
thinks should be fixed.
