field capture
« on: January 31, 2005, 10:48:11 PM »
On Ozkansas my squad, the Sick Puppies was trying to capture rook base A68.  We had all the buildings down and had let out troops, didn't take.  Had 2 squaddies fly over to make sure all buildings were down, one was up so we killed it.  About 10 seconds later it pops back up.  Eventually the whole town started popping so we left it for a base that we could capture.  Some people eventually got it but Idon't know how.  Perhaps it was a strnge occurance but 30 troops and it still wouldn't go.  Left some very unhappy Puppies.

Trying to capture a field yesterday very similar things happened, except that we succeeded in the end ;)

One of the buildings in the town wasn't always visible. Viewed from about 20 yards (driving a GV) it was visible, getting closer or zooming in it wasn't. It wasn't only invisible, it couldn't be hit by gunfire either. Neither when while visible nor invisible. Hitting the ground below the building with HE brought it down.

After that 10 troops didn't take the field either. I'm not sure if it was 30 or 40 troops that went into the maproom before it was captured.

Same story with 53 last night.

But its just very very difficult to make out a small building thats still up. I.e. the church hides very well between the remnants of the surrounding buildings.

I guess the improved graphics make field capture a new challenge.

There is another issue on some fields on Ozkansas.  In a very few places the town is close to the field.  Where this occurs you have to kill the field ack that is within about 1.5k of the map room.  The observable symptom is that your troops disappear into thin air instead of entering map room.
I get really really tired of selective realism disguised as a desire to make bombers easier to kill.

The issue Nirvana is talking about wasnt a building that was up we didnt see. We had 40 troops try to take this base. There was 1 building up. 4 lvts on the ground and 2 aircraft in the air. The building would come up 10 seconds after it went down. We killed the building at least 10 times with an explosion at the end. I believe some of the squad members have film of it if required I will try and get it emailed.
