DiSH Network in Cold Climates?

To any of you snowbound folks out there who have DiSH or DirecTV:  Do you have any weather-related problems with the service?  Any issues when it snows, freezing rain, hail, thunderstorms?

My stepdad (who lives in Wisconsin) is thinking about switching from cable, and I don't really know if weather would be a factor.  I've had both systems, but around here it only rains with the occasional freezing rain or hail...no snow or thunderstorms.

I've never had any problems. I suppose there could be problems with snow and ice accumulation but we don't really have that problem here, because the dishes are set vertically because of the latitude. I guess your satellites are right overhead, and that would mean the dish would be set horizontally?

If your point of reception is on the edge of the field your signal strength might be low enough to suffer from snow. I've seen it happen.

But if you have a strong signal in your area it will most likely not be a problem.

We have Dish in MN, occasionally during the heaviest part of a rainstorm/thunderstorm  the reception will be down for a minute or two.  Haven't noticed any other real problems, but haven't had any real heavy snowstorms or blizzards this year, so cant speak to that.

No problems here either.  Just in the summer during a major storm or something like that, we'll loose reception until its over, but no big deal.

When it snowed here last month, my satellite reception went out. I checked the dish and it had a good accumulation of snow on it. I hosed it off and reception returned.

I've had DirecTV for almost 6 years, only Cumulonimbus clouds (Thunderheads) or large amounts of snow here in Michigan will momentarily disrupt the service.   I have a pole mount in the backyard with a clear line of sight.
