Any other 2.4 GHz 802.11b or g networks nearby?
Microwave ovens running and 2.4 GHz cordless phones will also have the same effect.

go G & G.
any metal studs in your walls between the router and the pc?
wireless systems hop freqs better nowadays so 99% of the time nothing operating in the range will interfere with thruoughput. I live in a condo and there are at least 15 systems I pick up and at least 4 without any security enabled that I can tap into if i wanted to.
Metal desk? comp or router under desk?
line of sight?
bounce signals around corners and though doorways ..not though walls. mount the router on the wall 5ft high.
or your running at B instead of G
