What governs radar icons?
It happens quite often that I'm cruising along, aware that there's *someone* in my sector (red bar on map); but there's no red "bogey dot" to give his position away. Then, when I look down from my newbie alt dweeb perch, I see him below me (thank god!). What governs this?

Online is control by Hitech

H2H is controled by host (below is some info.)

27.0 ) RadarAlt = 500         ( min setting = 1 / max setting = 1000 )
This is in feet
Planes that fly below Radar Altitude setting are not picked up on radar.

**(Ver2.1)    Sets minimum radar altitude range "Above Ground Level".

28.0 ) TowerBasedRadarRange = 63360   ( min setting = 0 / max setting = 264000)
a ) 1 = 1 foot        b ) 5280 = 5280 feet ( 1 mile )    c ) 63360 = 12 miles      d )so that means...  264000 feet = 50 miles
Distance that the radar senses from towers.

29.0 ) RadarMode[0] = 0         ( min setting = 0 / max setting = 63)
29.1 ) RadarMode[1] = 0         ( min setting = 0 / max setting = 63)
29.2 ) RadarMode[2] = 0         ( min setting = 0 / max setting = 63)
Haven't tried anything with this yet.  Believe this is the distance from your plane or vehicle radar sees in miles so that you can see players on your map.  In miles?

**(Ver2.1)  Radar must be set for each country individually.
Radar mode is a combination of the following flags:
      Full Friendly - 1
      Tower Friendly - 2
      Full Enemy - 4
      Tower Enemy - 8
      Disable Friendly Counters - 16
      Disable Enemy Counters - 32

To turn on full radar for everyone, the commands would be
" .vset RadarMode[0] 5 " for Bishops,
" .vset RadarMode[1] 5 " for Knights, and
" .vset RadarMode[2] 5 " for Rooks.

To turn radar dots off completely, use
" .vset RadarMode[0] 0 ",
" .vset RadarMode[1] 0 ", and
" .vset RadarMode[2] 0 ".

To turn sector counters off, use
" .vset RadarMode[0] 48 ",
" .vset RadarMode[1] 48 ", and
" .vset RadarMode[2] 48 ".
(or use gui to set, comes down to what your most familar with.)

30.0 ) IconMode[0] = 0         ( min setting = 0 / max setting = 1)
30.1 ) IconMode[1] = 0         ( min setting = 0 / max setting = 1)
30.2 ) IconMode[2] = 0         ( min setting = 0 / max setting = 1)
Haven't tried anything with this yet but I quess it control the icons that show the players name, plane type or distance?

**(Ver2.1) AH currently supports 2 different icon settings. One visible at 6k, the short setting at 3k.
0 =  FAR ( 6k ),  1 =  NEAR ( 3k ).

Hope this helps

The red dots depend on a couple of things.
1. How close to a field you are.  If there isn't a field nearby then the dot won't show up.
2. Altitude.  Anything below 500ft won't show a dot. Ground vehicles never show dots
3. HQ.  If HQ has been bombed but not totally destroyed the first thing to go are the dots.
