Doh! First I had to remember the Object Editor was a separate program from the Terrain Editor, but I'm sure you already knew that.

I’ve built an airfield and installed it into a map but I have some problems.

1 How do I edit the "lrgrwy" file to modify the tarmac and taxi ways?

2 How do I get rid of hills and trees that are pushing up through my airfield?

Here’s what I’ve done so far in two or three attempts to build a large field with some “minor” changes.

In the OE, I now start with the "lafld0g" file thinking the terrain tile would level the small hills and get rid of the trees on a grass tile.

Then I added "lrgrwy" to get the tarmac and runways.

Next I put in a tower, Hanger, Fighter Hanger and entry point.

I selected "Build" under the file menu.

I found the ".shp" file in C:\Program Files\HTC\ah2editor\newshps so I copied it to my terrains' texsrc folder and it was available when I opened the TE.  Everything seems to work normally on that end.

Figuring out how to rotate, move and change views (Home View and View Selected) of the objects took me longer then anything else.

The problem I have is I want to edit the tarmac and aprons and of course get rid of the hills and trees pushing up through the terrain tile from below.

I tried exporting the "lrgrwy" file and got "lrgrwy.ac" when I clicked the "Export to Ac3d".  Then I changed the extension but 3D Canvas wouldn't open it and neither would MS Paint.

Anybody able to help point me in the right direction at this point?

Hum, just saw that ac3d is the program I'm supposed to be using.

Is that right?

1. if you are making a field tile in the file/properties of the object editor, make sure the last 2 boxes are checked.

2. If the hills are acctuly on the tile, and is where you layed the tarmac, just deleted them from the tile with the object editor.

Thanks Hitech!

Another dumb question: Can I make a new tarmac shape to substitute for "lrgrwy" as a simple .bmp and load it at "Displayed Texture"?

Displayed texture is just so you can put a terrain texture underneath when making the tile. It dosn't change anything in the output when you build.

The problem with making a tarmac as just a bmp underneath is that there would be no way of knowing if your on dirt on tarmac to exit an aircraft. But you could just put a new bmp on our tarmac with ac3d.
