Hi guys,

Just played with the built in movie editor in Windows XP for the first time, pretty sharp tool. I used it to edit together some clips I made of my Halloween costume I built for use these last two years. I've posted the link to the page (http://hallert.net/mech/mechcostume.htm) here before, and the attention-potato part of my personality dictates that I post the video clip too:

Wow, impressive. I had a transformer costume made of boxes when I was in 5th grade no where near that size.

What happens when you gotta use the can party?

LOLOL Chairboy. I just viewed your Mech page. I had no idea you were so frickin funny! That was a hilarious read.

I opted instead for some astronaut style preperation. By 'astronaut style preperation' I mean of course that I wore diapers.

Actually, it's so physically exhausting to wear for more then an hour that bathroom breaks aren't really an issue. I had a staging area outside my house with a table (visible briefly in the beginning) that would hold the suit while I installed myself, then I'd carefully back down the driveway and go terrorize the kids. When I lurched, gasping, back into the driveway 45 minutes later, I docked it at the table and unlatched and extracted myself. I think I lost some pounds of water through perspiration, bathroom breaks were really secondary after that.

At least, I THINK the wet stains on my trousers were sweat. Hmm, let me get back to you on that, time to go check the black box.

Thanks for the kind words, Slimm50! I built it when I lived in Los Angeles, but now I'm out in the boonies of Springfield, OR. I'm still trying to figure out what to make for this Halloween. Two thoughts I've been juggling are:

1. An APU mech costume, ala The Matrix movies. Advantages, it's tremendously cool, I can use skills I learned for the mad cat, etc. Disadvantages, it's not that different from what I already did and would probably be heavy. LOTS of detail work needed for the tubes, and not a lot of people would get it.

2. A spacesuit ala the golden ones in Star Trek:Enterprise. It'd be real fun to do the helmet & panels, etc. Advantages, I could wear it to parties and make a working cooling system. Disadvantages, well, it's not a mech.

Way, way easier & cheaper than you'd think. I've built a dozen "law" rocket launchers for paintball that will sling a Nerf Mini-Vortex over 100 yards with just a co2 12 gram. The impacts don't even hurt either. I had a friend blast me with one, from 10 feet away, in the face, and it didn't knock off my goggles or even hurt. Took 3 tries to make myself stand in the path of the screaming, 270 fps, neon orange projectile, but it wasn't bad... I really do prefer that whistling sound though when it's outgoing...
