got a question...

i normally telefile or online file the EZ form.

i dont have any reason not to, and i get my return quick.

this year i just got in the mail some 1099 DIV form from some BS thing at my company called the "XXXXXXX street retiree services for XXXXX dividend"

it says i got a dividend of $19.50 some time last year (which is BS i never got anything like that)


my question is: can i still fill out the EZ form?

if because of a dumb $19.50 i now have to pay some H&R block fugr money to do my returns im gonna be one PO'd MOFO big time.

they only do the federal EZ form free. they even charge $29.99 for the EZ state form


either way, i was hoping to find out if i can still do just the EZ form, i rent, make less than $23,000 per year, have no investments, have no interest bearing accounts, NO reason to do deductions, or anything else like that.

had the same thing pop up 73, mine was quite a bit larger than yours, filed online through H+R Block's online deal, and guess what.

The IRS rejected my online filing.  So... as of now, I have to go in no matter what...

Grrrrrrr....

H&R Block. TurboTax kiddos. It has all the forms you need and will walk you thru each and every one. I get 4 1099's every year and e-file.

but at my income i can not see paying for anything to do my taxes. i have done it by hand alone for over 13 years, and i'll have to read through the dmn long form probably because of this BS.

Yep, but it won't be the 1040EZ.  I think you can still use 1040A, and it isn't hard.  I can't imagine why you would not want to file a real return and get as much of your money back as possible though.

The 1040 isn't that hard, especially if you don't have the deductions, et al.  The 1040EZ is barely easier then the normal form, don't sweat it.  Just do your thing like usual.  You might be surprised to find out there actually IS something mentioned in the 1040 that'll get you more money back then you thought.

It should still be free from H&R Block when you file online.  I didn't use the EZ form this year, and it was for me.  Just make sure you go through the link on the IRS web site.

http://www.irs.gov/app/freeFile/jsp/index.jsp?

Just scroll down to the H&R Block link, click on it, then click the "Leave IRS Site" button.  From there, hit the "Start Now" button under free file.  If you've already started your taxes this year from the H&R Block site, you may have to create a new login once you enter the site this way to make it free.

I'm no smarter than your average bear, but I do the 1040, with 2 home offices, lease vehicles, 1099s, all kinds of crap, and I get a LOT of my money back.  I use Turbotax and usually spend about 3 hours doing them (I also check it by hand on paper forms, cause I'm anal), but the extra thousands make it worthwhile.

Hey 73...My wife is a CPA and tax is her "thing", so I asked her.  Yes, you have to file the 1040A and Schedule B part 2.  She advised never go to H&R block.  She has had to clean up alot of their messes.
On the 1040a you only have to fill out line 9a and the information is from schedule B.
She said you should get turbo tax like Lizking already advised.
