Was chasin' a ponyD in a la-5. Pony did some basic maneuvers, then ran like heck. I was D600 out (we were divin') and ended up on the deck over the waves where I closed to D400 (ok, I'm in faster plane, and gaining on 'em). I had 8min fuel (so I was light) and had wep on. I stayed back at d400, and was waiting to shoot for D200.

Ok...the Pony didn't have E on me ( at 1st I was catchin' 'em ) and the la-5 is supposed to be faster than a pony. All right, everybody w/ me now?

Here's what needs explained. I was on auto lvl (basically) and not moving, neither side to side, in a gentle turn or up/down. The pony tho', was doing these little mini' climb to 200', then dive back down, climb couple hundred feet (ish) dive back down the whole time, and STARTED PULLING AWAY. He was just consistently bobin' up and down. That's what floored me. He went from D400 to D1000 in 'bout 4-5min.

How is that possible? Am I missing something? By doing a gentle climb, then zero g'in it back down, rinse and repeat, are you GAINING E? SHOULD you gain E? Seems to me you would lose E doing the climb, that should not be offset by zero' g'n it. Also, I am far from convinced he was doing zero g's. I'm just assumin' it.

I was, and still am, utterly confused. Is this some exploit I never learned?

lol, how about the pony that is barrel rolling trying to avoid geting shot and stil getting away from an LA7 just like you described.

actualy quite simple, your prop was trying to bit into the disturbed air left by the P51 and was losing thrust, if you had gotten out of the wash you would have gained.

i think it's very funny you chased him for 4-5 min when you were almost out of fuel, but then you fly a lala.

It's really very sad we can't fire up film viewer anymore while in game. It came in very handy in times like these. Find out who it is thats doing the running then proceed to private message him and explain its much less plainful to die fighting than die running.
Oh well, we still have home networks.

As for the 51 running. He should have been pulling away from you. And in the time you gave, it makes sence.

Odd.... for some reason, I always thought that the la5 had same speed as the la7. I recall lookin' at the charts on netaces and they were the same.

WMLute, probably La5 accelerates to its sea level top speed faster than P51. That would explain why you got to 400 yards. Meanwhile the P51 accelerated slower but continued up to a faster top speed.

I forgot you both were diving and once you both hit the deck you were able to aproach to D400. Then the explanation is a bit different and very interesting.

I will assume that you two were initially well above your maximum top level speed at sea level and I will assume also that the La5 were not able to outdive the P51D, that, is, you gained on the P51 after leveling on the deck, not while diving. Just after hitting the deck, you two were running at similar speeds or the La5 being slower.

That would mean that La5 deccelerated also slower than P51 up to its maximum top level speed. P51 deccelerated faster up to its maximum top level speed, but stop deccelerating at a higher speed. At some point the La5 was faster and was able to get to 400 yards and keep there for some seconds. But the La5 keep deccelerating up to a slower speed than P51, from that point the P51 was able to run away easily.

And now, the question: does make sense that a plane slower than other on the deck deccelerates also slower than the faster plane starting at similar speeds well above their maximum level speeds?

I've seen that effect a lot of times with Spits pursuing my D9 in a dive. Along the dive, the D9 is able to keep the distance, once leveled the spit start gaining for some seconds and, suddenly, the range stabilizes abruptly (like the spit hit a brick wall). From that point the D9 runs away noticeabily fast.

You will go faster using slow climbs and 0G dives in this game, I am not sure if it's realistic or not, it's the way it is in her though.

guys he said that what was getting to him is the pony doing the climb & dive thing to get 'E' (speed) and get away.

Ive noticed ponys doing this a lot on the deck, 190's as well.

The pony and 190 have an excellent dive ability, and they use that to regain the E they lose in the climb all the while forcing you to lose E which your lala cannot regain.

example: p51@400mph with lala d800 away @450mph.

pony climbs up about 2k feet, lala follows... top of climb p51 is at 250mph lala at 300 distance is now d600...pony noses down and does a zero-g dive with wep on.. lala tries to follow... bottom of dive pony is 380 mph lala is 360 mph distance is now d700...

and the pony repeats this once more and the lala is left behind.

The trick there is the pony is doing a zero-g dive, gaining maximum speed on his dive..the lala pilot oth does not nose straight down he will try to follow the p-51's dive while keeping it in sight..so the lala ends up diving at best at 50 degrees... so the lala does not regain the E it lost on the climb.
