My brother is so stupid.

My youngest brother just put on a wool jacket, for civil war.

He goes, and I quote him..

Oh my god! There must be fleas in here, this itches!

There's a Civil War going on in the US?

Holy jeebus...with all those easily availiable guns the casualties will be HUGE.

RUN AWAY.

I thought his brother was an only child........

Believe it or not, the idea behind wool jackets in summertime was,  ... the jacket would fill up with sweat and when a breeze went across it, it would have a cooling effect.  I reenacted back in the day, and this theory really works.  But it's hard to get used to, and at first doesn't make sense.  The temps drop at night usually during camp and the wool jackets are good for that too.  Guess it just serves double duty, with the emphasis being on night time temps.

I esp. like taking off the wool jacket, when drenched in sweat, with my cotton undershirt and having a breeze chill me to the bone..

Cotton is the way it is now, but muslin is was what the material was back then.  If your going to be authentic, at least wear the proper clothing, which was muslin back then.
