X45 and Trim
« on: February 08, 2005, 02:51:41 PM »
Recently I set my trim for pitch and roll to the 2 analog dials on the throttle and mapped those in the game stick setup. To get them to work I had to delete the stick.cfg file. If I now calibrate the X45 in the game, I loose control of the two analog dials until I delete the file again.

1. In the Saiteck profile mapper I have the two dials set to analog.
2. In the game setup I mapped these to pitch and roll. When I move them the counters respond correctly.
3. What have I done wrong, or do I accept this a "feature"..:)

when you say "lose control" do you mean they do not respond in game, or they respond randomally and wildly?

a few things to check:

unlike AH one auto combat trim does not turn off with the input of manual trim from the rotaries. back in AH one you banded the rotaries then mapped an actual key press. in AHII they are an axis.

if you disable auto combat trim in flight preferences it will not come on unless you manually put it on.

if you have it set to on, to get the trims to respond you must turn it off manually by hitting Ctrl-X i believe.

also since these are axis, you must calibrate them just like the rest of your stick and rudder.

lastly, in the JS controls window the wave form graph on the axis inputs does not show range of motion for the rotaries, though they do work in game. maybe it's a bug, maybe it's a feature, i dont know, it doesn't really matter to me.

hope i explained that well enough for you, i use that setup, and manually trim all the time with no problem.
I don't know what to put here yet.

I haven't had combat trim on in over a year. What happens when I calibrate the joystick, throttel and rudder is I get an abreviated range of motion when I trim. So I delete the stick.cfg file and I get back the full motion range. It almost seems that I need to remember to set the trim pots to "0" before calibrating in the game.

By calibrate, do you mean in XP control panel when I do it? Or am I missing something when I calibrate in the game?

you need to move them through their whole range of motion IN game, just like your stick, then center them at the indents just like your stick being centered before exiting calibration, again IN game.

hope that fixes it

Ok, so in the calibration screen where it says to move your devices through their range of motion, you have to know to additionaly move the 2 extra pots you have associated as analog devices to your trim through their range of motion and stop back at their center? This is the jist of what you are saying.

yes, you have to calibrate them just like your other axis controls cause that is what they are when you set them up that way
