I don't know how to tell you this but thats just the start.  SA and knowing when to perform what ACM is way more important.  You could do pretty good with just good SA and only knowlege of basic ACM.

PS. knowing the name of a move does not increase ones lethality either.

dedalos did I fight you in the DA the other night? If so you did good and I wasn't referring to you. I'm referring to the guy  who comes in with the HO. Then to his credit, instead of running, he'll start trying to dogfight you with a heap load of E and black out and do massive loops. Once it becomes obvious you're on his 6 or soon going to get there, the only idea's he can come up with are:

1) Run for his life
2) Continue his same manuever until you blast him

As for SA, I shoulda clarified that in my "skills and ACMs". SA and knowing when to do what is part of what I consider "skills" That's my fault for not clarifying. Also I think we might be on different pages. I'm talking about what happens when you attack the avg. pilot in there 1vs1. When you tackle a horde, then yes, SA becomes much more important. One last thing... Do I detect some sarcasm in your reply to me?

PS. Thanks for the tip in your PS. I know the names of a lot of them and can actually do some of them well:aok

Before you guys get too far away from Dlords question I thought I'd give him my answer.

The game hasnt really changed in that you'll always find a challenge. Through the lack of 1v1 fights I' now fly into places I know I wont fly out of. Or the chances of me doing so are very slim. But thats 'my' game. And in that lies the challenge.

Your always going to have to deal with cherry pickers, guys who try to ram you, guys who run (or will try to)... The list is much too long for me to want to go on any further. But with each, there is in some way, a challenge. Some more challenging than others but never the less a challenge all the same.

To me, flying into a huge ball of red with a squadie, killing as many as we can before we die or the red runs out, is more fun than anything else the game could offer me. Its not just the fight, but the BS on squad vox after.

But then again. This is just me. And as they say. To each is own.

Thanks for the reply Morpheus. I'm from back in the AW days and would like AH to be like that as well. I guess time have changed though. Oh well, I'll think it over the next few days. Thanks to all those who replied with constructive feed back >>><<<

(edit): I should apologize to Super and megadud for the accusation. My bad guys.

You should try the game again, all the dweebs left and all that are left are gentlemen pilots whose displays of chivalry and ACM are enough to make you weep with joy.

lol, yes you do, but even though it is in a reply to you, it was not directed to you personaly.  You trigered it when you said if you know ACMs it is pretty easy against most people.  You reminded me of one day that I kept turnfigting an A6M in a 51.  After losing 3 out of 4 fight, the guy offers to help me in the DA.  Obviusly I was bored (why else would you turnfight a 51 agains a A6M) so I went.  The guy kept calling every move he was making on vox and explaining to me how its done.  Never mind that I was on his 6 all the time within 10 seconds.  I finnaly had enough and pulled the cannon trigger.

As far as 1 on 1, I still think it is SA  (assuming some ACM knowledge).  Knowing e-states, distances, what your plane and the bud guys plane can and cannot do is more important than ACM (in my opinion).  Thats what I was doing that day in the DA.  (Not taking anything away from you, from what I saw you could hand me arse anytime)

PS.  Change your name man.  Up until now I thought I was fighting MegaDud that day, lol

Ok, I think I see where you're coming from and it makes sense. IE: Instead of turn fighting the zero, you know to extend out or rope them. The reason I'm such an ACM advocate is due to the fact that I know a guy who can dogfight(not BnZ) the avg zero pilot in a yak, jug, F4U etc... and will win 90% of the time. Now against a better player, he's toast, but I personally could not do what he does. But like you said, he uses his SA to estimate his E state and the other guys to know what to do. I feel though if you have any talent at ACM's then you'll know when to use them and what to do. The only way you get good at doing them is to practice it over and over and through that, you'll find when to do what. I guess SA and ACM's just go hand in hand.

I don't think I'd go that far. When you got into a spit  is was pretty close and coulda gone either way. It was fun though and hopefully I'll see ya in there again for a rematch:D

My 2 cents:
The BnZ dudes i can ussually get to bleed off their E and fight my fight not theirs. Ussually after a couple passes they get frustrated or I actually pull off wildthings famous maneuver and pop em during their pass

I have just about given up trying to avoid the Ho's it seems like their is a dedicated bunch that actually have mastered counter maneuvers to me trying to avoid a HO shot so now when i see em trying to force it...I spray right back.
Actually im thinking of spending one night with my convergence set way out and just fly around HO'ing everything i can. Maybe get to hear the whines from the other side of the fence
Crap now I gotta redo my cool sig.....crap!!! I cant remeber how to do it all !!!!!

There are plenty of BnZ wanks. At the same time, there are plenty of folks that are willing to fight the "good fight".

Use the 2 week free trial and see for yourself. :)

BTW, I am one of the folks that is perfectly willing to use the 'evil' BnZ tactic when it is called for. Anyone that says they won't...ain't the brightest penny in the purse... :).

You are right.  After a certen level those things go together.  I guess I was refering more to the people that know the names of moves and how to perform them, but not know when or why to use them nor why they won the fight.  Obviusly, not talking about you here.

lol, close, but not close enough.  I can't fight and can't aim. 1 on 1 same planes, I will die.  What I can do is exploit situations and set up traps when in a plane that I know, fighting a guy in a plane that I also know.  Maybe this is why I think SA is more important (to me atlist).  If I was wrong about your e state or the model of plane you were in, I will die fast.

There is quite alot of HOing and BnZing but its sooo easy to avoid.

HOers and BnZers are the last pilots I fear now that Ive learned how to avoid it. Quite easy.

The game was always full of BnZers who headon; don't believe those who pine for the "good old days" where such behavior didn't exist.  I remember back in the day when Torque would grab an F4U-1C and headon everything in sight.

The change now is a matter of degree.  More people mean more BnZ and headon in an absolute sense.  Most likely the relative amount of such activity has also increased, but good 1v1s are still out there if you know how find them.  The game is, as always, what you make of it.

intersting observation about head ons there....i have noticed guys now not only using head ons as a tactic but basing their countermove on the fact that your going to get outta the way...ie making sure they are in line for another ho pass at you or similair
