When you're looking at a  plan view of the fleet to select ship gun position how do you tell which type of gun you're jumping into?

Also, which guns are best for different attacks?  For example, for fleet defense against aircraft? For fleet defense against PT boats?

And, on the PT boats when I jump into the various gun positions I don't know what caliber of gun I'm firing.  Is there some place to view all ship guns and calibers?

Your first question is an easy answer. The BIG yellow dots are 8" guns, only available on the cruiser. The medium-sized dots are 5" guns, available on both the cruiser and carrier. The smaller dots on the carrier are 40mm guns (between the 5" turrets near the tower), BUT on the other ships they are 20mm cannons.

I use 5" AA shells for nailing everything because they blow if you get remotely close to your target. You might get lucky and nail the sucker out-right too. If another fleet shows up, jump over to the cruiser's 8" guns and bang away!

No, there's no place to show you what gun is what caliber. As for the PT Boat, here's what I know:

#1: Twin 50 cals
#2: Twin 50 cals
#3: Single 20mm (bow mount)
#4: Single 37mm (bow mount)
#5: Single 40mm (fan tail mount)
#6: 5" rocket launcher

Torps are fired from the driver's seat, just in case you didn't know.

Thanks Flakbait.  That helps quite a bit.  So you'd say the best place to be for AA defense of the fleet is a 5" gun on either the cruiser or CV.

On the 5 inchers, hit your change weapon key and you'll be able to select between AA ammo and HE ammo.  AA ammo is the one that has the proximity fuse
