Anyone ever tried to come up with a new invention or product?

I have three ideas in my head for a long time:

1. A GPS trolling motor ( I call it the "Magic Anchor) for small fishing boats. Programable to maintain a position in the water or patrol a small area automatically.

2. Power comsumption meter/ bill calculator for inside the home. To measure and calulate your electric usage and bill up to the minute. I figure a passive device coupled over the main power line installed after the meter outside, with a small display and interface on your phone or something.

I was thinking it would be nice to see my electric usage and cost each month......how many people actually read and keep track of their meters and what the electric companies are charging?

3. A pet door that only opens for your pets. On the collar of the cat or dog, just have a small device that allows the pet door to unlock as they get near it.

Very good ideas nuke. However, I dont think GPS has that kind of accuracy. I believe the U.S. military purposely keeps civilian gps units inaccurate below 30 meters to prevent foreign militaries from using them. This may have changed since the late 90s.

Exactly. What the heck kind of benefit do you get by posting this stuff online, compared to possibly developing them?

I have one hand held that is accurate to within 1 - 3 feet.

I just figured I'd never get around to developing them, because I have had them for at least 10 years or more.

Plus, just wanted to see if anyone here thought the ideas were good.

When I was a kid, I hated putting toothpaste on my toothbrush. So I invented a toothbrush with a hollow handle and hollow bristles so that you only had to fill the toothbrush up with toothpaste about once a week. I made some drawings of it, but never made it. This was in 4th or 5th grade.

Well turns out someone invented one and called it the "travel toothbrush". Not sure if that person is rich now, but they got my invention.

When I worked for my dad at his car stereo shop, we got the Pioneer ( I think) CD player for a car.....one of the first on the market. It was HUGE. It had a CD drawer and a seperate box that was about the sixe of a shoebox.

I told my dad that I thought digital music would someday be on chips...like computer RAM with no moving parts.

You don't have to develop something to patent it. It just has to be feasible.

Go ahead and apply for patents Nuke... about $14k a piece... maybe only $8k if you do most of the legwork yourself.

Either that or wait for someone else to come out with a patent on it and then site the timestamp on this thread as proof that you were the original inventor and sue them.

I'm waiting for the guy that patented using a laser pointer as an exercise tool for cats to start knocking on the door of every cat owner that bought a laser pointer.

They've changed the GPS systems now. Previously the GPS information was made inaccurate but it's not anymore.
