Moment of zen in a PC game
« on: February 13, 2005, 10:28:34 PM »
So there I was.  Spring, 1990.  Sitting in the Cargo Office of the USS Concord (AFS-5).  Playing "Their Finest Hour" on the mighty 286.  I was leading a bombing mission of Do-17s into England.  The sun was setting in the game, a nice big orange circle split in two by the Channel.  Off to my right a flight on 109's with red noses were escorting me.  No Spits, no Hurri's, no fighting just enjoying the view.  On the tape player I was listening to the B-52's "Cosmic Thing" when the last song started playing, called "Follow Your Bliss".  Perfect.  It was something that I always remember when that song comes on.

OK, what's yours.

No "Flaming Diablo's *** in the CT last year." or "Watching Shane get smoked and him *****ing about being gang banged the whole way down." kinda crap.

nhl '93.... damn my roomates and I played for hours on that game.

Really enjoyed SWOTL when I was in college.  My whole floor played the game on some poor kids 386 or 486,(can not remember) for hours on end.
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

had this one sortie in the SEA a few weeks ago. killed 6 + a few assists. was the top german ace of the frame.

in 2 min i got 4 of the kills. calling on vox..

"wait... he's dead... JB11 chk 6!!!... your clear hes dead... CHK 6 again!!... your clear he's dead."

i got 2 kills in 15 seconds.

there was an MA sortie like that once, in a dora, i was yanking and banking on the deck, made the perfect evasive barrel roll, boom spit is dead, then like 3 seconds later i killed the la7 i was originally on.

had like 5 kills that sortie, never above 1.5K over the water, my heart was pounding... i had done it in a dora!
I don't know what to put here yet.

I've had a couple that stick in my mind.

First was in the old AW. My squad was returning from a mission and several guys were on fumes. I had already gone down in flames by being my usual aggressive self. :) It did have the distracting feature that allowed mos of my squad to return. When they were getting close to the border a flight of 3 came up to get the survivers. I launched in a F6 to cover them and saw the ambush starting. I jumped into them to try and break up the attack. I succeeded as they now went after me. Everything outside of the screen went away. During the fight I knew  where each one of them was and countered them. I got shot to pieces, but landed all 3 kills and my squad landed theirs.

Second was in AH. We had a night dedicated to a scenario. We were flying 38's, a plane I really didn't fly much at all. My job was high cover of the strike force. They were clear but the low cover was engaged fully and having a hard time. I dove in and calmly started picking off the enemy during the furball. It was my first 5 kill landed mission. Rude STILL claims I stole 2 of his kills. I don't believe him as he couldn't fire to the rear. ;)
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

About 2 years ago, I was flying a C205 in the CT on the malta map, am flying on my own happily(those who visit the CT know what I mean).

At one point, I see a cloud of little dots appear on the horrizon (wtf???) and get closer to 'investigate'.

I usualy s*ck in AH, but this was a moment of pure bliss: I had stumbled on a group of Spits (I think it was the 303 Polish Squad training for  big SEA event), I do a few passes, and the 1st spit I shoot down is no less than the quitting-bastige-leader of all spits: FUNKED

I laughed so hard I was promptly shot down, and I heard FUNKED got the auto-mute for profanity language for 10 minutes following that.

Can't stop laughing even as I type it :lol

My total zen moment was in Ultima IX: Ascension which was actually a pretty good (if a little light) RPG if you could run it without crashing.  Was hanging out in the woods, the sun was rising,  the music was suitably soothing, and a little english robin-looking bird landed next to my character and started bathing in a puddle.  Then I realized how silly the whole thing was and went outside.

In Ultima Online. I was the only one to find a bug in which I could steal everything from a persons paper doll while invisible. In one week I acquired 4 house, 2 castles and a mill in gold. People feared the name Dion Sanders.

F4U-1C at sunset... somewhere in the mountains on Trinity.  The effects of a few vicodin were just peaking as I basked in the virtual orange glow, with streaming ambient chill music in the background.  I lost all interest in finding a fight; the hills wanted to play so I performed lazy aerobatic maneuvers, enjoying the effects.  It seemed to last only 30 seconds, but I eventually ran out of gas and found myself somewhere northeast of tank town, sitting near a clump of the AH1 2D trees, completely mellow.

I will always remember how good the sea blended with the horizon looked in 1942 Pacific Air War...the sun glimmer..I still don't know how they achieved that with 320*200 and 256 colors

Back in the day on the Napa server. My buddy and I decide chopping wood sucked and it was a life of crime we were after. We'd set people up. We played from the same room. My buddy would talk to players right outside the entrance to the caves, I would be next to him invisible. While he was talking and being all nice informative I was looting the player left and right. We became notorious and no one would trust my buddy knowing I was lurking...

Then one day I stumbled on a bug. I could stand a certain way to a player invisible, bring up their paper doll and drag EVERYTING from it to my player. You can imagine the laughs when I dragged all their clothing and chest away and they instant being naked. I'd have a rune stone and instantly teleport into one of our stolen keys castles and drop my loot. It was sooo evil but soo fun. We mainly prayed on the Asian kids, all you'd see was acsi symbols scroll when they just realized all their hardwork from the last 4 months disapeared when I stole that fancy armour or sword.

For awhile there was a site that offered 1 mill gold for my ears ... funny stuff. I'd be walking in town and people would just trashtalk me to death begging me to step out so they could kill me.

I stole so many keys that we'd sell the house right back to the owner or their clan buddies, we were ruthless.

Then karma struck.....

The admins kept teleporting me to rooms threatening me and wanting to know how I had so much stuff. I guess watching me in god mode didn't let them see how I was stealing with the bug. So one day we decided to move all our loot to my buddies 2nd unknown honest character incase I was banned or killed with keys on me

so.......

the exact time we go to the bank and I move 2 million and gold to my friend another bug abusing player appears on the roof, fires off a spell and everyone dies , even the AI guards. So there I am laying dead to bug and watching this guy hit the jackpot looting my corpse of 2 mill in gold...

live by the sword , die by the sword..

at that point all I could do was laugh while my friends practiacally cried. About a week later I realized the game was sucking my social life and I gave all the stuff away to friends ingame and told the admins how I was looting, I then cancelled my account...

...then a week or so I just find out the new craze of people selling loot and chacracters on EBAY for real money!!!

I can only laugh again when I think how much money the famous Dion Sanders character would bring and all the items and castles we owned , oh well. I'll never play one of those level up pay to play games again. Especially now that playerkilling in it's true form is gone. Its all about Aces High now.

I could probably write a book on all the evil things and crap we pulled in that game.. there were some great times.
