Every shipment I get from UPS, they just set it on the doorstep with no attempt to ring the doorbell or knock. Is this a regional thing? I can see my next computer delivery..........

"Hello UPS, I have not recieved my latest package.........No, it was supposed to be here 3 days ago......................you delivered it when?................nope didn't get it...............you left it WHERE?................do you have a signature from me?.............what was it? a new top of the line ALienware SLI computer...........I think you owe me another computer.

Hello Alienware? i'd like to return my new computer.

Ok, i wouldn't do that, but it is tempting. Tell me they haven't had this problem. Is it worth the time saved by just dropping it off on the porch as opposed to ringing the doorbell and waiting for an answer?

They do it to me all the time. I will not use them because of it.

The only way I can get the package the first time if it needs a sig is to leave a big note on the door saying YES WE ARE HOME!

Though I am less concerned when they just leave a package cause they always put it on the patio out of sight, it is the packages that need a signature and they just leave the note and not knock that kills me.

with UPS tracking you know to the minute when the pkg has arrived, i have a apt and UPS always drops the pkg at the office so i have no problem.

the last pkg UPS delivered to me, i showed up at the office 15 min after it was dropped off, the MGR said "how did you know your pkg was here?"

Last time I used them, I ordered some toilet paper and they just walked in on me while I was sitting on the throne. I woulda appreciated a knock to say the least.

It's FedEx for me from now on.

you bet, with ups tracking they should be able to tell me the exact moment when the punk neighbor kids stole my package.

LOL, its a tradition here in NC as well. I heard the ol' Brown driving by one day and looked out the window, to see the truck pull into the neighbors driveway. The driver proceeded to grab the package, walk to the porch, ring the doorbell, then immediately walk swiftly back to his truck. I saw the neighbors door open, the guy looked back then kept walking and drove off.

Maybe they're all afraid to interact with people?

The drivers are under a really tight schedule. They have to get all the stuff on their trucks delivered that day. I agree, a knock would be appreciated.

Same thing here in Alabama. If its a residential delivery they absolutely refuse to stay long enough to get a signature on the package. Fortunately I haven't had any of the shirts or anything else I ordered stolen. For the electronics though I prefer to use FedEx or only sites that use FedEx for their shipping. At least those guys are forced to get a signature on their delivery reciepts or were when I worked for them.

UPS and my neighbor did a number on me..

First UPS delivers the package to my front door.. well being south florida in the summer time it was the rainy season down here. Well neighbor decides its his best interest to take my package from out of the elements (now considering that i have a roof over my doorstep i could n't figure out how this will help me from except being a nosey SOB...)

Well guess what 3 days go by and im wondering where my package is.. Checked online UPS site said it was delivered but thats impossible because no package is there.. Well I call UPS and demand to know who signed for my goods.. ( oh BTW neighbor takes my stuff and sits on it for 3 days...) Well shure enough i get a fax to my office with my neighbors name on it.. sig the whole shebang..

After discussing with the representitive what has transpired the **** hit the fan.. They explained it was UPS policy to sometimes allow neighbors to sign for their customers... WTF i double taked and told them to explain it again i wasn't hearing it correctly...

So thats their fugging policy.... Heres my new policy you brown SOB's... Ship it Fed EX whenever possible... its worth the extra 3-5 bucks to avoid the chaos theory factor of neighbors jacking your stuff and being senial enough to forget about it....

If this was US mail I would have brought some USPS smackdown but considering that UPS is private I had no such recourse....

I hate em both.

Figured I'd try FedEx ground. Shipped 20 packages in one week (8 pound aluminum parts I had custom cut, lathed, etc). 14 folks email saying their packages are mauled but the contents are fine. One is damaged and dinged up really bad. These items were well packed, bubblewrap and such.

UPS wanted $17 to ship each. FedEx Ground $9.85. I knew it was too good to be true. (Also, UPS had a $1 fuel surcharge, as I recall it)

Someone mentioned DHL or even the post office. You find me a postal employee who is HAPPY to see 10 boxes arrive at their counter and I'm there. At my post office, if you have 2 envelopes, the silent grimacing begins.

My mom works for UPS. She says its different for each state. Some areas enforce that their drivers do not knock because of weirdos dressing up like UPS drivers knock on a door and some old lady opens it.

Yeah unless you require a signature then it gets dropped. I Used to work for major online company and we had all kinds of problems with this exact problem. Neighbors signing for it and then saying they didnt get anything was pretty paramount. So was the I came home and there was nothing on my porch. just checked ups site this is hilarious. Now you can specify it has to be an adult signature. lmao I picture a big UPS warehouse full of non-delivered goods.

Well i might be wrong but cant you insure your stuff with fed-ex and ups? I know you can with USPS. They loose it or bust it collect some ungodly insurence. Bet they will require a siggy if you have a good amount of insurence on your package

Never had that problem with UPS. I know the driver real good and she always knocks before she comes in. plus she is a babe

try ensuring with UPS.

We did, shipped a large collage of WW2 Japanese artifacts from North Carolina to Colorado. The package was double boxed, with more than 2 inches of packing to protect the frame and contents. The glass was also taped. We insured the item for $26000.00. UPS gladly took our money when we shipped.

The package arrived. There were tire tracks on the corner, and one large boot print in the center. I refused to sign until I opened the box. Obviously the interior was destroyed.

UPS sent out some idiot to inspect, 3 weeks later I was notified my claim was denied as it was insufficiently packed. I filed an appeal based on the tire track and boot print and went through a 6 week wait, and it was denied saying the packing was insufficient.

We are now suing UPS.

UPS sucks.
