What is the range measured in on the Icons?  Is it feet, meters, or yards?

Ie: 1.2 equals what?

So the implication here is that you wouldn't want to shoot at something that's d1.2 (1200 yards)away.  That's almost 3/4 of a mile.  That's why you'll find most people          from 250-400 yards (give or take).  Some people shoot from long range hoping to get a few hits but it's a very low percentage shot so it's basically a waste of ammo.  I've seen people          at me from d1.4. Look to set your gun convergence somewhere between 250-400 where you feel comfortable. Personally, I like a little longer convergance than the default setup.  This allows me a better concentration of fire without having to be right on their tail.

This depends on the plane as well Spitlead.  In the Jug I use 300 for all guns.  In the Hellcat I use 250.  Because the kitty has 2 less .50 cal MG's, I need to hit closer for my hits to pay off.  The ballistics of the guns make a big difference as well.  The lower velocity cannon rounds tend to drop off faster, so they normally require a closer convergence setting to be effective.

The Hispano's and .50's are the ones with the best long range shooting ability.  With those guns, you can run out to 300 or more if you wish.  Personally, I find anything over 300 bad for .50's, because although I hit at longer ranges I don't do enough damage.

The main thing is to try some different settings and figure out what works best for you in the planes you fly.

Oh, and the range is measured in meters or yards.  Same length, so pick your favourite.

Actually, my curiosity was inspired by the tanks.  We routinely shoot at other tanks at d2 and hit with some effect.  That is what WWII tanks gunners would have called Ludicrous Range.  The 75mm AP rounds would hardly penetrate a Volvo station wagon at that range. 800 rounds was considered extreme range for most tanks, and the US armor had to get a lot closer to knock out the German tanks.  And still had to hit most of them from the rear to assure a kill.  Maybe this will be one of the things that gets changed with the new armor revisions of 1.07

Not sure what the realistic ranges for the MarkIV were, but I can hit consistently at a stationary target from 1.5 miles out(2600 yards) within about 5 ranging shots.  Once a tank is within a mile, I can hit them better if they are moving than I can stationary, weird huh?  Must be the 'bird hunter' in me (lead em lead em!)

Not QUITE true. A meter is 39in. The difference adds up after a while.

How long is a yard?

Anyway, it's yards then.  Close enough for me. ;p

Since the entire game has the american way of measuring i think distance is also done in "feet".
If i see a plane that is 3.5k away, this means 3500 feet.

All that i was saying here was my first logical thing i could think of. I sure hope that distance is done in meters or yards.

By the way, i thought yards and meters are the same??!?!?

Greetings,

JG5FaBi.

In Aces High if something is 3.5k away, it is 3,500 Yards or Meters away.  Your convergence settings are also measured in yards/meters.

Yes, yards and meters are almost the same.  Apparently they are not exactly equal, but close enough for our purposes.
