Russia Nuclear Deal With Iran
« on: February 17, 2005, 05:41:40 PM »
"RUSSIA defied stern American warnings yesterday to announce that it had agreed to start shipping nuclear fuel to Iran in three months"

That's got to raise the temperature in the middle east. Bet Bush was Pi**ed at that anouncement and rightly so.

Not sure if I would say Russia is a backwards nation but Putin has/is certinly moving the country towards authoritarian rule. And it's hard to understand the reasoning behind selling nuclear fuel to a country like Iran given the current political climate in the middle east.

It may be an act of spite by Putin for his perception that the U.S. interfered with the Ukranian election. The deal is good for the Russian economy. Russia is strapped for cash. It looks like Putin is attempting to broker arms deals with all of the nondemocracy countries that currently don't agree with the Bush doctrin. Kalishnikoff sales are starting to pick up.

russia is not sending nuke weapons to iran.

from what i read, russia is supplying fuel for a power plant russia built in iran, i do not know if russians will operate the plant. the contract calls for the spent fuel to be returned to russia.

there will be international inspections of the plant and fuel.
