How does your squad operate
« on: February 17, 2005, 07:12:16 PM »
I was sitting around sorting through all the stuff going on with our squad, and I got to thinking, and wondering, how the other squads operate.

How often do you have squad nights?

Do you have a website?

Do you have squad email?

Do you have a squad message board?

Do you have a squad chat room?

Do you run joint ops with other squads?

Do you operate as a squad in scenarios?

I thought it might be interesting to see how others do it.

Well lets see!!!

We have a mail list for each game members are currently in

we have a main mail list

We have a squad site and server provided

We have a messageboard

We support our squad members when needed ( when someone is down and out we all pitch in and help them out in different ways)

members are frequently going to all parts of the world visiting other members

we all call each other long distance and just talk, not anything specific

we all have been issued a pink tutu upon being inducted into the Damned group

We have been around since like way back in 1987/1988 and our squad is more than just flying together in an online game.

We try to help where we can and support the community of the games we play and give to the game if we can offer up anything to it.

we participate in Friday Night sqd Ops

we participate in AH Scenario's

and other AH events

but most of all we basically just try to have fun and relax........

Yes to all.

The CAF has been around for 10 years, and our message boards have been in nearly the same place.  It's our virtual home and is most always active.

It's funny.

We're coming up on our 9th birthday, and most of our Members no longer fly in Flight Sims.

We have a website, but it's been down for a while... Webmaster must be on extended Shore leave.

We have a Newsgroup that is in constant use.

Getting Squadies to fly in the Coral Sea Scenario is like pulling teeth. But then, I volunteered for Torpedo duty, and you kind of have to be a bit of an oddbird for that I think.

We do fly in the Friday Squadron Operations Event. That basically acts as our "Squad Night" and during the low points, that's all I fly in AH.

We tested out the Squad Email last week. It still works. But since we started the NG, we don't use it much.

Mostly, we play Fantasy Football, and talk crap to each other.

Sounds about like the Nomads.  It's more a group of virtual friends now.  Lots playing other games.  The Nomads expanded to all kinds of games and there are folks who are Nomads that I have never talked to or know about because they're focus is in the game they are playing.

the E-mail still goes fairly strong of the old flying guys, but not many flying, with some in other more active squads as well.

Obviously in the early days it was a squad nite at first once a week then twice, and all kinds of flying.  Now to see another guy up is a rare treat :)

Folks still having fun at whatever they choose to play though.

1. Twice a week (Fri and Sun 2100hrs eastern time)
2. yes
3. yes
4. no
5. no
6. no
7. Maybe, I've never done a scenario. Maybe the others have.

Typical mission is take a fine bent wing bird and load her to the gills with all kinds of things that go boom.

Fly for what seems eternity.

Unload the big blue bent wing bird.

Fly home alone as my squad mates leave for the next mission to a different target.

Land my kills (if any) then listen to my squadmates on the radio until they "finish" their mission.

Once a week, ussually in fri night squad ops.

Website, email, msg board, all yes.

Chat I think is there but its seldom used that I've seen.

Once in a while we'll set up a joint op on a night when there is no squad ops.

Of course we coordinate with other squads in Squad ops all the time.

All depends on if someone steps up who's interested in the scenario & gets people to sign up.  Daddog (CO) Is currently a CM and I was a CM for several  years. So we are a bit burned out on scenarios.  Although the right setup will get me interested.
