Suck framerates why?
« on: February 18, 2005, 05:15:11 PM »
OK,

I have a pretty decent system and the Framerates have always been sub par for what I'm seeing in graphic detail when compared to other games.  With the new patch I'm close to watching a slide show which is rediculous considering the levels of detail.  When I pull everything back to minimums I get a slight jump while in the tower but its still in the 20's.  Tough to say what the averages are but I did not see above 10 on my last osty drive.

I'm running at 3800 Mhz, 1 gig of fast Ram, and a 9800 AIW Pro vid card.  During the game I'm showing about 40 megs out of 128 vid usage and 600 out of the gig mem usage.

Since the last patch my average framerates are about half of the previous version.

When running games like Farcry pretty much maxed out I barely see any lag at all.  Am I right in guessing that there is some sort  of problem with the system resource usage of AH2?

What gives?  Any ideas?

Sounds like you got more than enough machine.....I had a similar problem and found it was that my system was infected.... Not with the disastrous viruses, but spyware and other crap.

Get Ad-Aware (free version available) and run it often to rid your machine of the crap.

Also, be sure you are not running unnecessary processes.

My system stats are below for comparison, but I max out at the refresh rate of 75 frames per second most of the  time, and usually close to 60 in ground vis view.

Forgotten, but back in the game.  :)

I have a 3 gig hz system with 2 gig fast ram and 9800 pro, I get 50fps in a crowd with details turned down provided I am not close to the ground, the ground clutter, trees specifically seems to bork my fps.

Ya, I take a big dive when close to the ground.  The only thing I really did not do was turn ground range down but not doing  so kills you since you can't see anything until you are right next to it... I seem to commonly hit sub 10's in GV's now with aircraft going from pegged at 65 down to single digits near the deck with those occasional slide shows randomly tossed in nearer the deck.

I'm pretty sure the issue is not my machine... I'm running a couple windows of Firefox and thats about it.  It seems to do just fine in ther games that have much much better graphics so I'm wondering if the problem is ATI vs texture usage or something but thats nothing I can debug.  The other thing that makes me ponder is why, with everything cranked up am I only using 40-50 megs max out of the 128 meg vid card?  I don't see any swapping going on either, just poor performance.   Any pointers on what is actualy being changed and where the sweet spots are would be appreciated HTC..

I'm runnin a 3ghz with only 512mb ram and ATI X300 series card. I'm upset if I get into the 30's during play. Maybe ISP problem?

P4 2.6 cpu 800fsb . Intel MotherBoard  w 800fsb and DCR Ready.  ------->512pc4000 duel channel ram .<-----    nvidia fx 5200  128 mb agp.  ------>SB augidy z2 sound card<-----  dialup 26400 connect speed 99% of time . updated drivers  for all hardware  the mb,sc.vc,mod.

In full- med- view  res 1024x768      frame rate 75 +- 112 highest looking front sides back ect not up.  , frame rate looking up is not a factor but its way over 120.  res at  800x600 fr 86+-   120. and in  f-4 view fr is 50+-      it verys a little, but pretty steady 75  and 86,   may only loses 10 to 20+- . in heavy areas..   frame rate f4 view  is no lower the 45  depending on scene.

Nothing over clocked or any tweaks, just the adjustments nivida provides, which are great  ones too  :p  IMO.    i matched the hardware that work the best together.  :)       It kicks arse i have to say.  I built it,  and Inexpensive too!!

Considering that Trinity, as a rule has great frame rates, and the plunge it took with the latest patch , I`m wondering if the next time a Fester map rolls around if we will be moving at the speed of frozen syrup.

Actually I've found my framerate actually improved with the latest patch.
Least it seemed so last night anyway.

Pretty sure connectivity has nothing to do with framerates, only warping and disco's.

Am I on to something with 9800 cards?  Have the latest Omega drivers and 9.0c so drivers should not be an issue.

I also tried shutting down everything else and just running the game but still did not notice a significant diff.

I may be wrong but I don't think it should matter but I'm running ddr 433 mhz which is supported at that speed by the MB.  I can give you the Cas timings if it does matter.

FR's in this game really do seem to be a bit of a mystery.

I've got an old XP1800, with a cheap Radeon 9550 and 786 megs of slow RAM. Running 512 textures and the defualt detail settings I only drop into the 20s when I get into a low furball over a smokey base.

I don't know, the only non-standard part of my system is that I'm still runing Win98SE as my OS, and the old OMEGA drivers for my card.

I suppose there are a lot of variables out there that contribute to system performance in the game, but it's interesting to see such variance in FRs accross systems.

Frame rates in the CT seem awful slow compared to the MA currently, flew in the CT tonight and found myself having to reduce stuff to get a decent frame rate.

Make sure you don't have "Preload into video memory" checked.
This is designed for 256MB cards.  This will kill your FR if you have it
checked.  I have HALF the system you have with ATI 9600 Pro and get real good FR.
If that doesnt work, ya, scan for Spyware and Virus's.  Your system should rock with this game.
Also, do an internet search using FSAUTOSTART (Or FSSTART- cant remember) as your perameters. Download it at the appropriate site. This program will shut down background programs running before it launches AH2.  It also
defrags your system memory before launching.
